Coaches/Players of the year

Featured Replies

I would agree with you, however, I do give the coach props for promoting her team by being a member and making the trip to the coaches meeting.

Team??? Was that player the best player on the team. wouldn't have been my pick!

Completely agree.

Great insight...thanks...I would say its very important for you to be a member....you have several girls that could have a chance to make all state down the road....at least if you nominate them you have done your part...if all the area coaches don't belong though your girls will probably not be chosen bc the coaches that know them best will be the nky coaches and that's where they would need to get there votes from.

I would love for this to be a big topic at the next coaches meeting.

Never been to a coaches association meeting that this has not been a topic of conversation. Absolutely can not force coaches to join.

I would think any AD could...all they have to do is make it part of their job requirement. My boss makes me do all kind of things I don't want to do that's a lot harder than joining an association.

Maybe we should focus our energy on the AD's...I am not a fan of parents running things but in this case I think they should know its important for our kids.

To quote Jed Bartlett/West Wing:

A man once said this, "decisions are made by those

who show up."

So are we failing you, or are you failing us? It's a little of both.

I am sorry but I would be embarrassed to vote for my player or child if they clearly weren't the best in the Region. That would reflect poorly on me, IMHO. I think my daughter would be embarrassed as well.

IMO, not even the best on the Ryle team, forget the region! Take Crupper off that team and they are avg. Take anyone else off the team and they are still pretty good...as long as Crupper is on the mound. You tell me who the MVP of that team is.

Through my years in softball and soccer we have had some really good parent coaches and 1 really bad we have also had non parent coaches again same thing some really good and really bad. Seems to me the parent coaches just care a little more and how can they not, but for reasons like this one all the good parent coaches get a bad name bc a parent votes for their child when she clearly may or may not be in the top 25 in the area.

Coaches can only vote for coaches and players within their own region. If Coach Flyball is the only coach from the 9th region who votes and he votes for himself and one of his players for coach and player of the year guess who wins. At the selection meeting for the east-west all stars coaches from other regions can sing praises for another player outside of their region but only if that player has been nominated and her name is on the list. So don't complain if that coach wins because you are TOO CHEAP to join the Kentucky Softball Coaches Association and support your own players and other players and coaches in your region that are most deserving.:taz:

IMO no coach should have to pay for this out of pocket, every school should handle this for the coaches.

Don't preach! You're missing the point. It is what it is. They showed up and they voted. I'm saying the person they voted for is not even the best player on their own team!!!! Maybe not the second best!

You have got to be kidding me! How CHEAPare you people in northern ky. Take the money out of you coaching salary. If a coach can't come up with the $ 35.00 fee then in my opinion they are not in it for the right reason. I deem it an honor to be a High School coachI guess I have to say this again--A coaches reminder-" Players don't CARE how much you know-until they know how much you CARE." Give your players the support that they deserve and quit being a whiner.

ntinsitee--I AM NOT A PREACHER MY BROTHER.I'm not missing the point it's on the top of your head. If the person that they voted for was not the best then it's either one of two things. 1st all the coaches there must have given her enough votes or there was only one coach who voted.

Bottom line... you could force them to join but that still does not guarantee they will vote. There just isn't much unity in this area like there is in other parts of the state. I have seen the best players in this state and there are players in this area that are just as good, we just do not have the depth here that teams in other parts of the state have. What has to be done is coaches need to look at the best players and teams and vote for them and hopefully when the situation is reversed they can expect the same.
