I didn't really want to do this but I appreciate guru and I am trying to be a good sport so here it is in alphabetical order. This is the best list I can do for the time I was at Mercer, 1974-1987.

Dennis Davis

Keith Horn

Tim Rogers

Nope. David Buchanan was the best I ever saw in the Scottie uniform. :thumb:

Actually I can see that. Davis was the toughest and most talented athlete I saw on a Mercer gridiron. Horn graduated in '78 didn't he? If it's who I recall he was very good.

Rogers was tough.

All three are great picks. What about some HM for Troy Lay?

Coach French would say I was the SLOWEST player he ever saw in a Scottie uniform!

Keith graduated in 1979.

Troy Lay was very good!

Hatz- these threads make me miss those days we were young and those lights would come on in central Ky on a Friday night. We never beat the Rebels when I played but it would be great if there were 5 minutes before kick off right now and I was looking across the field at a bunch of gold helmets. I hope the kids playing today enjoy it as much as we did!

What position did Keith play and please tell me about his playing days. I work with Keith and never knew he was a great football player until just now.

Post merger Mercer County is:

Cory Jackson

Brandon Ford

Chris Lewis

End of discussion.

He played tailback and threw a bunch of passes to Duane Flora in 1978. That was Coach French's first year as head coach.

That was the Keith Horn I remembered.

I agree with your hope for the memories of today's kids. I also remember my senior year when Larry French told Vaught in the Pregame Article: "I don't know how we'll do vs. Boyle. I hope there's an earthquake Friday night on their sideline and I look up and their team is gone."

We loved that comment and Ray Whitehouse printed a flyer that had an "Earthquake Warning, Friday Night in the vicinity of Mercer Co. High School. Epi Center to be located on the Visitor's Sidelines at the Football field. This warning issued by the Perryville Pool Hall Seismographic Center."

Ray Whitehouse was a great player. We worked together one summer for Clyde Jackson in those cornfields. At least heat acclimatization wasn't an issue for me in 1982!

In 1987, we finally got the Rebels. First time since 1968. I was on Coach French's staff. We won 3-0 at your place on a Kelly Coleman field goal.

I also believe that was Coach Rall's last season.

You guys brightened up my day with this thread. I might watch that JV game video again with me and ChiefSmoke on the same gridiron. It is hard to exaggerate skills when those tapes exist form the early 1980's.

Burn that video. I would prefer there is no evidence to dispute how I choose to remember those days.:lol2:

It was. I was in the Radio Booth that night. Mercer was the better team. It was Ed's last year and he got tired of promises from the administration to better the facilities and then never do anything. I still love that man and proudly call him my coach.

See, all mine are in 16 mm and I tell anyone watching that film always makes you look slower. :lol2:

Ed Rall is the real deal... Great coach, great teacher, and an even better man. I would charge Hell with a water pistol for that guy!

So would I. In fact, I think I did. :thumb:

I feel the same way. I ran into coach at a past players funeral and me and all the former players stood around a talked about the past for ever. amazing how much fun we had back in the days!
