22 Feet Academy Announces a Move to South Carolina

Featured Replies

22 Feet Academy will be moving their elite team to Greenville, South Carolina. They are still planning to have a team in Kentucky, as well according to their head coach.

Here is a press release from 22 FT:

Shannon Forest Christian School Announces

The Arrival of 22ft Basketball Academy!

Greenville, SC – Shannon Forest Christian School is pleased to announce a new partnership between the school and 22ft Basketball Academy. The European-based academy has locations in France, Holland, Spain, South Africa and now, Greenville, South Carolina!

The first, multi-continental basketball academy in the world will bring 24 student-athletes, ages 12-18 to Greenville to train in preparation for the collegiate level and attend school at Shannon Forest. “This is an exciting opportunity for Shannon Forest and we look forward to welcoming these student-athletes into our community,” said Shannon Forest President Bob Collins. 22 ft and the student athletes will start the 2013-2014 school year with the rest of the Shannon Forest students.

“We were very pleased that Shannon Forest saw this as a great opportunity for their school and community,” said Mike Rawson, 22ft CEO. “We love the Greenville area and have been looking to set up an academy here for the past 3 years.”

The students are coming to Shannon Forest not to take over the school’s basketball program, but to receive a quality education in a stable, Christian environment. While the 22ft athletes will not participate on Crusader basketball teams, the Shannon Forest athletes will have the opportunity to train with these elite players. “This is a great opportunity for our administration, faculty, coaching staff and student body to build relationships through academics, athletics and student life for God's glory,” commented Shannon Forest Athletic Director David Thompson.

A press conference will be held on Monday, May 13, to introduce the 22ft staff and a selection of players who will be relocating to Greenville. This is a story you won’t want to miss! Another FIRST for our school community and the city of Greenville!

So how do Prep schools Work? Im hearing they dont even have a school. The student(players) go to a high school but play for the prep team. Hunting Prep is evidently not even a school. They go to a HS in West Virginia. Do they pay rent? How do these kids get diplomas and who gives them the diploma?

They will attend classes at the Christian School. 22 Feet is just a basketball academy, a club team essentially. It's not a prep school.

What a shock! Pressure got to them, again? :sarcastic:

They are still keeping a club team in Jackson, as well.

"CLUB" team, no their so called "elite" team. Months have passed and still not one question has been answered from them, and then they leave. Well, they switched HS so many times here in KY as well, lol.

Their Elite team is a club team, as well. It will just have better players on the roster.

Yes, their "elite" players are moving, so are the coaches. Again, they haven't answered one question directed to them, then they move.

Huntington Prep players attend Huntington St. Joe high school. A private catholic school that offers a first rate education. They all are required to pay tuition. Prep has financial backers who foot the bill for that, and frankly, the education is the largest expense of their operation. They receive a diploma from HSJ. They are housed by host families. They don't pay rent.

What questions are being asked?

What questions are being asked?

There have been plenty of people, on this site, other sites, and throughout the state asking questions about this group ever since they arrived last September, and nothing has been answered, anywhere.

On this site, several people had questions, which I compiled as many as I could, they may have been more. But here is the link to the other thread, and here as some of the questions, but with all the moving around, I am sure people have even more questions.

1) Who are the coaches and what are their backgrounds?

2) Why does the only website they have (a site for their Euro operation) say the coach has NBA experience as a coach? What NBA team(s) did he coach?

3) Euro site also says the coach was at many NCAA schools? It says "He implemented successful basketball programs in Europe and the NCAA". Which NCAA schools and at what capacity?

4) Who are the guardians? I head both coaches, who are bothers? Correct?

5) What was the issue at Scott Co?

6) If the purpose of going to Jackson was to "get away" from the distractions", they why did they go to Scott Co first?

7) What "deal" do they have with Breathett Co? And who is paying for the kids education?

8) What type of visas are the foreign kids here on?

9) What scholarships and subsidies are there? Who provides these?

10) Why no website of the Kentucky team?

11) Why no photos of the accommondations (Motel) "Well, they would need a website for that, convenient!"

12) Why did the organization leave North Carolina? How long were they there, what other locations did they spend time at?

14) Why have a Euro operation when they tell the kids to just go to the US program? What problems, if any, do they have with places in Europe?
