I wish the teachers would paddle my kid if he does something bad.

You mean you're violent with your kids? Has social services been called?

Haven't had to be violent with them. They've been good so far and the youngest is 13 so I think we're in good shape for a violent free household. Losing the computer and cellphone has worked so far.

Because with fear of consequences comes respect to the person or situation. When my kids are out and tempted to do bad things I hope they fear my consequences enough to make the right decision. If they don't fear the consequences then they won't care what decision they make right or wrong.

Or you could just instill good morals and values so that they know what the right decision to make is.

Respect out of fear is not true respect.

Different topic, but my stance is the same. Parents shouldn't physically discipline their children either.

Teachers aren't babysitters, their job description doesn't involve inflicting physcial harm to children.

They can just as easily pick up a phone and let the parent know what the child did and let them deal with it.

Part of their job description is discipline. Paddling is a far cry from physical harm. come on man! You're from the post paddling era aren't you?

When you have kids, call me when you change your stance and I'll guide you on a demonstration of not sparing the rod.

I hear you. And for most parents physical discipline is the last resort. The belt and paddle always got my attention when nothing else did.

I can 1000% guarantee my stance will never change. It's not necessary.

Bet you needed it more than you got it. Agree?

Disagree.

Absolutely. The belt and paddle came when I got caught. Needless to say the belt and paddle taught to me never make the same mistake twice.

Disagree.

So fearing the consequences of your action translate into respect in your mind?

It's a lot easier to discipline kids in many ways now than what it used to be. You can take away cell phones, video game consoles, computers, tv, etc. Back in the day nobody had that stuff so if you stepped out of line you got the paddle or the belt. You can't send a kid to his room or go to the corner or timeout. That crap doesn't work like a belt or a paddle.

So fearing the consequences of your action translate into respect in your mind?

Yes. Otherwise I'd do what I want to at work. If they aren't going to fire me then why should I respect them?
