Ohio Student Held After Alleged Teacher Assault on 71 year old Teacher

Featured Replies

That's fine and all, but the world has changed in the last 50 years. I'd never consider sending a child to a school where the teachers tried to intimidate them. That's an awful learning environment IMO.

The teachers didn't try to intimate you, but you knew the consequences of disrespecting the teacher. I wish schools still allowed paddling.

I only feared a couple of my teachers but I respected them all and I also knew what my dad would do when I got home if he found out. Ironically, I made my best grade in the classes in which I feared the teachers. I was too scared to not learn.

Serious question, you're out shopping with your little one. They do something to disrespect a sales person. No issue with said sales person paddling your child?

That doesn't work. The sales person isn't in a role that would allow them to teach and discipline kids. Teachers are more than just some random person you see from time to time. Teachers shape the minds of our kids and if we treat them like a random sales person then we can't be mad when our kids don't learn squat.

Sales person wouldnt have to, I would as a dad.

But you are at the store with your kid, your not at school and kids need to know respect when away from parents.

Are parents in the classroom when their children disrespect the teacher?

Teachers aren't babysitters. They're no more special than any other person. They should not be allowed to physically discipline students.

Teachers aren't babysitters, their job description doesn't involve inflicting physcial harm to children.

They can just as easily pick up a phone and let the parent know what the child did and let them deal with it.

I disagree. I was paddled in school once. I deserved it. Life went on. Teachers shouldn't be held hostage by unruly kids.

Yep, teaching a student that if someone doesn't show you respect, violence is the answer is exactly how I'd want a child's mind to be shaped...

Kick them out of the classroom, send them to the principal, and phone their parents. If they have a parent who gives a crap about their child, it'll never happen again. Either way, it shouldn't be the teachers job to decide how to administer physical punishment to a child.

A paddling is not violent. Huge stretch.

We disagree. I'd don't have a problem with any of my kids taking a paddle to the rear in school when they step out of line. They're going to get it when they get home anyways. Double the trouble. I like it.

You mean you're violent with your kids? Has social services been called?

Moronic. Should be made to undergo some sort of mental evaluation.

On a side note, why in the world should a student ever fear a teacher?

Because with fear of consequences comes respect to the person or situation. When my kids are out and tempted to do bad things I hope they fear my consequences enough to make the right decision. If they don't fear the consequences then they won't care what decision they make right or wrong.
