Hank Jr or DAC? Who Ya Got?

Featured Replies

You may be right but I don't ever remember hearing he wrote the underground stuff while in prison. I thought he wrote a couple of albums he released in the late 60s long before the underground stuff.

On a side note, some of the underground stuff is really rough and I am sure many people think DAC is racist, sexist, etc. as a result of that music but I want to offer one however. At least one of the songs could/should/whatever word you want to use here be considered racist/anti-black/etc. However, for a period of time DAC had a black drummer in his band.

Most people don't realize that.

No doubt.

The point I am making to everyone is those underground songs are rough but they pretty much make fun of, attack, and/or make light of several different things. In other words, he is entertaining using X-Rated material much like many comedians do.

If you can't entertain people without all that stuff you must really suck.

Yeah I second guessed even bringing up the album because of it's content but thats why I classified it as more of a comedy album pretending to be old country western. I don't support some of the ideas or views expressed in a couple of the songs, but if you can listen to some of the songs on that album and not get a good laugh out of them than I don't think anything could make you laugh.

Well I guess this thread sums up pretty good that DAC not only can make a good country music song, he can also make songs that are comedy as well. DAC is a talented country singer regardless of his content.

Exactly!

I really like a few of songs on the underground albums but DAC's best work is all legit Country Music. He is an extremely talented singer and songwriter. For example, he wrote Take This Job and Shove It.

Another little known DAC fact.

I have to add, I love Hank's music.

Love DAC. Many of you may not be aware that he recorded somewhat of a "metal" record that was released in 2006 with 3/4's of Pantera, titled "Rebel Meets Rebel", very good stuff.

Yeah last thing that guitarist dimebag Darrel recorded. Actually a good album IMO.

But never released commercially, correct? My understanding is Dimebag's handlers at the the time told him no go on a release because they feared it could hurt Pantera's overall record sales.

Not really sure. I know it hit the shelves but not sure if it was in a limited fashion or not. I think it was released after he already died to maximize its profitability. After he died everyone wanted it because it was the last shredding he had ever recorded, would have been a shame if it didn't ever make it to the publics ear.
