Who will be next Montgomery County Basketball Coach?

Featured Replies

Mark Starns is a great guy and a great coach.

With that said, he will not be the next coach at Montgomery Co. He applied for the job when Tony Wise was hired and left a bad taste in the mouth of many people that matter in MC Athletics. I don't know all the details, but that's what I've been told from my sources.

Left a bad taste in their mouth? How?

I wonder if the ppl at MC now wish they would have stayed with Coach Wise. Not like had did a bad job or had a bad record or ANYTHING like that. 4th coach in 4 years is never a good thing for any program.

I agree, how did he leave a bad taste? Aren't you suppose to put your best foot forward in interviews and be aggressive to get jobs? Who are your sources? If you can't name them or tell I wouldn't put much credibility or stock in hearsay!!! IMO if that was their position they lost out, their track record as of to date isn't to good changing coaches like changing underwear. LOL!!! Question, was the current adminstration at Montgomery around when Starns last interviewed?

I'm curious if MoCo knew this would be a one year deal when they hired Happy Happy Happy. Any MC folks know?

They knew it was a gamble... a Gamble worth taking.

I dont think the Head Job will go to someone on the inside.. I dont believe Scott Hundley, (he is waiting on the Scott co. job) I dont think Wayne Breedan (plays to slow of a game average 40 points not exciting for fans, When MOCO was averaging 75)... If I were MOCO i look for a College Coach again, maybe local schools. For instance Berea Head coach took the the Paris Job I heard a while back. Bart Flener would be an options Coached at a Few Colleges, Lex Cath, Glasgow (with Mr. Basketball Brandon Stockton).... Who knows. What they will get.. Im sure this will be a job that will get a great amount of inquiry... What About Akeem Scott former player there, I know he coaches at Asbury, His Late father was a great Coach and its in his blood. He was assistant with the Girls program their Back to back state trips, then went to Asbury as an assistant help lead them to 23-10 record the best record in Asbury History. I have seen some of his workouts He is tough but the Kids Love him.

I did fail to mention what about Josh Cook, former assistant at MOCO.. He had a GREAT season with Lawarance Co. Bulldogs.. I head Shelby Valley trying to get him.. I do think they need to find someone to stay awhile.. But I hear administration not a good situation either

Thacker from Rowan. You heard it here first.

Who do you see as a final 3?

Not hearsay at all. Experienced it myself.

Starns basically "campaigned" for the job around town. He visited businesses in Mt. Sterling trying to "show he cares". That's taking it too far to me and I guess those involved in the hiring process as well.

IMO I don't think Josh or Gene want people working in Montgomery County school system being there spokes person. I believe they will be the ones pulling the trigger on who they want. Good for Starns if he campaigned for it, sounds like to me a lot of insecure folks at MCHS. I would want a coach that is aggressive their teams usually play that way.

I couldn't agree anymore with you TrueLies, that is how most coaches get jobs calling on people that they know...I don't see anything wrong with it.

If I'm applying for a job at Montgomery Co. HS, I'm worried about impressing 3 people: the Principal, the AD and maybe the Superintendent. I don't care what Joe Bob down at the bank thinks about me. Just my opinion.
