Players to watch

Featured Replies

Other than the obvious, which players have impressed this year so far?

I think it's still a little early, for me at least, to really say. I would say in a couple weeks I could come up with some names. Not a bad question though, just seems early.

It is early, but I have been impressed with the young players from Holy Cross this year. They have a bright future ahead of them. Speaking of HC, I got a chance to talk to Tiberi after the Cooper game. I don't really know the kid , but he made a huge impression on me! I've never met a more humble kid. Wish nothing but the best for him.

The BW freshman really look good. Nick Carr for Cooper is hitting the snot out of the ball and should also have a great year. Carr seems so much more relaxed this year at the plate and it shows and he also has a cannon for an arm in center field which makes him very fun to watch.

Kyle Kramer is playing good ball right now for Scott.

There are several players this year from around the region that warrant a look. On Ryle, juniors Clarkson, Forbes, and Downs will shine. All have blazing speed in the field and on the base paths. Clarkson has a cannon in center and can hit.

Forbes is a hitting machine with great baseball instincts. Downs will work his way into the starting line up. Dixie's Nick King is a follow. King has a cannon in the filed and may surprise on the mound. Conner's # 11 Jared Williams will be fun to watch, both in the field and at the plate. Scott has a couple of boys that will play at the next level. Shortstop Reed Spata has nice infield actions at short and catcher Kyle Kramer is a hitting machine who hits to all fields showing power to right. St. Henry's Tony Lacorte may raise some heads on the mound with nice control of all his pitches.

Across the river, Glen Este has The Burdick Brothers, Tyler and Peyton. Tyler will be among the top in every offensive category and Peyton is no slouch at the plate either and the boy can deal on the mound. Austin Istvan will hit for power and average. Turpin has very solid defensive players in Capetillo, Varner, and Sophomore shortstop Patrick Fletch.

Varner, was fourth in fielding percentage in greater Cincinnati last year as a sophomore and looks good at the plate showing some power. Anderson's Jake Mason is following in his older brothers footsteps and promises to have a strong year on the mound consistently reaching the mid 80's with his fastball. Reading's Dave Vaske should continue where he left off from last year, both spring and summer. Vaske, a junior, won an easy 12-13 games on the mound throughout last year. Reading's sophomore Kyle Bowling hit oe 400 last year as a freshman and will continue that trend.

Lasalle's Senior Pitcher won 4 games in the GCL last year and shows great command of three pitches in and around the strike zone.

If we are including the Cincy side of the river, get out and watch the Bennetendi (sp?)kid from Madiera. Best player in area. He is headed to Arkansas and is simply a stud. Can anyone confirm wth is up with Shannon at Moe? He is not even on their roster on schools web site. On the Ky side, other than the obvious. I watched Campbell County play Saturday. Loved their leadoff hitter, #15. Pushed a great bunt past pitcher and beat it out easily, then ripped a double in gap late vs the BW pitcher who had been dominate up to that point.

Are you sure that was Campbell County? I'm thinking of something exactly the same but it was Boone County Beechwood.

Watch all of CCH this year........Truly team players with solid D and clutch hitting.......

Schreiv's gets the focus (and he deserves it) but the other no names are ball players !

Yep. It was in the game at NKU.

Grades!!!

Players not on everyone's watch list.... Dalton Harshbarger Conner, kid competes, calls a great game, and threw out a lot of top level JV'ers last year. Grant Wassom Scott can hit to all fields and can flash some power at times. Grant Moeves WV will surprise some teams from the bump. Tristin Marcum SK moves the ball like its full of jumping beans and sets up hitters well. I like watching Austin Johnson Boone rip the stick, that kid loves the game. You cant help but root for Fussinger Cooper lead JV in hitting AVG as a freshmen I believe and is possed to make a big impact this year. Conner Brown from Cov Cath may not have blistering speed but gets batters out shown by him leading his JV team in innings pitched last yr and a varsity win against St. X this yr. These kids are the reason we watch the game, not the ones who MIGHT be one of the 440 high schoolers taken in the MLB draft this year.
