March 21, 201313 yr Barring a significant change of minds, the Reds are expected to announce today that Chappy will close. The Morning Line, 3/21 | Paul Daugherty Glad we have a $7M setup man now. Edited March 21, 201313 yr by HammerTime
March 21, 201313 yr Dumb, dumb, dumb, dumb, dumb. That Broxton deal was about as ignorant as it gets now.
March 21, 201313 yr So last year it was great but this year it's dumb? They didn't know he wasn't capable of starting when they signed Broxton.

Yes, it's absolutely dumb to do this when you went out and spent the kind of money they did on Broxton. And the only reason the moved Chapman to closer last year was out of necessity. Madson doesn't get hurt and he's a full-blown starter last season and this one.
March 21, 201313 yr Reds were screwed either way with this... They were going to have naysayers whatever they did with him... It seems like the general consensus amongst those unnamed front office people that have spoke out to the media that they are going with what most people would do.
March 21, 201313 yr If they make the decision that he is the closer, they most certainly believe he can't be a starter. I've said it a million times and some of BGP still ignore it but, we have no idea how Chapman felt after starting, how he graded out, how he felt in off day pens...etc. There's a reason he isn't starting. And...again...I'll take the word of those that actually talk to him and evaluate for a living over an emotional fanbase.
March 21, 201313 yr People are complaining about paying Broxton $7 milliion and I get it, but if our bullpen turns into the common day nasty boys then no one complains. Would I like to see him starting? Part of me? Yes. But at the same time I realize the problem last year wasn't the pitching, it was the hitting. So why mess with what worked?

When you're wrong about something, repeating it a million times doesn't make you any less wrong.
March 21, 201313 yr When you're wrong about something, repeating it a million times doesn't make you any less wrong. What am I wrong about? They want him to close? They talk to him more than you? They evaluate for a living and you don't?

March 21, 201313 yr But UKMustangFan thinks he can so Dusty and Jockety are idiots. Actually Jocketty's been pretty vocal that he wants him to start.
March 21, 201313 yr Actually Jocketty's been pretty vocal that he wants him to start. If that's truly how he feels, he would be starting, IMO. It could've been part of the process and not his true feelings.
