Marion County 72 Anderson County 49

C'mon, you going with that? Brossart, a very average team up here also beat Manual that day. As I recall, Manual was missing players and going a very tough time at that point in the season.

If I recall also, Anderson was lucky to make it out of their own region to a team that most 9th region teams beat. ND dominated our region this year and you barely beat a team that had a losing record against our region. So don't get all high and mighty comparing scores. Anderson has a nice team, but the two teams that play in the finals are the finals. If ND and Anderson were to play, I would definitely pick ND at this point in the season! You can read in the paper and see the polls all you want, but ND is the better team right now and they are showing it.

Marion is a tough matchup for anyone and should win the finals (sorry Pandas), but please go away with a 23 point blowout boasting that was really the finals. Maybe thru your goggles.

I believe Anderson only beat Brossart by 4 in a tightly contested game in Franklin County if I recall correctly

It was actually 7 Anderson beat them they Brossart also beat Manual by 7 in the same tournament.

I do believe that Anderson is the 2nd best team in the state. Marion is just that good!

Anderson is a great team. Marion is THAT good. ND is just as good as the rest.

@RCC9. ND also lost to Walton Verona and won by 1 against Holy Cross. I wouldn't disrespect any of these young ladies for there successes! A squirrel and nut analogy is a little childish for a grown man to compare the accomplishments of any of these teams. Why don't you just call it what it is, ND and Marion Co both belong where they are cause they've weathered their storms and came out on top!

Hold your horses...Marion County hasn't "weathered" a single storm all year and probably will not tonight either. It is more like it to say that they have had 37 "walks on the beach" They are certainly that far above the rest of the state this year.

Marion County certainly is! Congrats to them and ND for making it to the finals! And I'd agree with RCC9 on the fact that this was the finals! Not the Anderson Cty's game.

Yep.

Debating who is/was number 2 is like debating who's the skinniest kid at fat camp. Does it really matter? Marion was far and away the best team in the state. ND played in the championship game and deserves tons of credit for their run. However, if they (or anyone else for that matter) drew Marion in the first round, the season would have ended there. Point is, any team in front of Marion was losing, regardless of the spot in the bracket.

Very well said and very true!

Then why did you start the thread to begin with and make it sound like it was only Anderson worthy of being in the championship game against Marion? No matter if Anderson was in lower bracket there were other teams there ready to fight to the finals. Lower bracket wouldn't have guaranteed them a spot! But congratulations to their fantastic season!!

They (Anderson) would have lost if played Marion in the first round. But I thought they were were the 2nd best in the state so if they would have played then I would have thought it would have been the finals.

We are saying that would not even been close to a "lock" if they were in the other side of the bracket. No one is debating who is the second best team...we are saying it is pretty arrogant to discard all the other teams. I don't think Anderson was the second best team in the state. There are 3-4 others that could easily played with Anderson and my point was that SK almost didn't allow you to get out of the regionals. They are a good team, but I wouldn't consider them near the top 10 in the state. I think ND (obviously), Madison Central and Manual could play with Anderson very easily. I know, tell me how bad Anderson beat Manual that day. So did Brossart and Anderson only beat Brossart by 7. So to me, that doesn't tell me Anderson is a lock at the next best team outside of Marion. Put it this way, if there was no Marion, the state championship would have been wide open! Heck, there are some teams that didn't get out of their region that could have played with Anderson (and the rest of the state). If you were a betting man and there was no Marion, would you have taken Anderson against the field? Because that's basically what your opening statement implies.

I'm not trying to drill Anderson at all. They were a great team and had a great year. My point is the statement is rediculous. It would have been wide open without Marion. And ND showed you that in the finals. Within 10 in the 3rd? No KY team was that close that late in the game.

Seriously? They were 34-2 and beat half a dozen "top 10" teams. They were ranked 2nd in the LIT ratings and the AP poll basically the entire year.

were they untouchable? absolutely not. They played several close games and even got beat by a marginal opponent in Bryan Station. But they were clearly deserving of the #2 ranking given their schedule, record, and margin of victory.

AGAIN, could care less who was RANKED number two. AND could care less about records. I'm saying that it's rediculous to think/say they would have been the clear favorite (which is exactly what the opening statement insinuates) without Marion being in the picture. Again, take Marion out of the picture and I wouldn't have put all my money on Anderson. I'm sure they would have been one of the favorites, but definitely not a "lock". Outside of Marion, ND could have played with any team in the state during the state tournament. It makes no difference what happened in the season, what anyone's record was, it's who is playing good at the right time.

AGAIN, not taking ANYTHING away from Anderson. They are VERY good. I'm talking about the statement. Marion was untouchable, no other team in the state was.

I was responding to your statement that they weren't anywhere near the top 10 in the state.
