That sounds about right. No one cares that the President just goes around laying blame on anyone but himself. when his own Press Sec even said it was the WH who was suspending the tours. No one holds the President accountable adn just let him slide. Until the media and people start holding him accountable then our country will continue to suffer.

Why is this big news now? All Presidents and Politicians do it. You act as if Obama is the first! This is the Hypocrisy that irks me about politics. You always want to point out things one side is doing that are wrong. Which is OK, but when the shoe is on the other side you want to turn a blind eye to it. The right and the left are shifting blame now, when it's their blame to carry. Why don't you post about the responsibility the right shifts to POTUS?

What I thought was weird about the whole controversy is that in an interview with Goerge Stephanapolous here is what the President said:

 

Obama’s comments suggested, contrary to previous statements by the administration, that the decision to scrap the tours fell solely to the Secret Service.

“I have to say this was not a decision that went up to the White House,” Obama said in the interview. “But what the Secret Service explained to us was that they’re going to have to furlough some folks.

“The question for them is, you know, how deeply do they have to furlough their staff and is it worth it to make sure that we’ve got White House tours that means that you got a whole bunch of families who are depending on a paycheck, who suddenly are seeing a 5 percent or 10 percent reduction in their pay,” he said.

An administration official, seeking to clarify the president’s remarks, stressed that the decision to cancel the tours never came to the Oval Office, falling personally to Obama, but that it was ultimately made by White House staff.

“In order to allow the Secret Service to best fulfill its core mission, the White House made the decision that we would, unfortunately, have to temporarily suspend these tours,” spokesman Jay Carney told reporters last week.

Secret Service officials also told ABC News that the decision to cancel the tours was made by the White House, although the agency first proposed the move as a possible cost-saving measure. The Secret Service has to cut $84 million because of so-called sequestration; canceling public tours saves $74,000 per week, the agency said.

 

What is not clicking for me is that if the tours were kept in place, then the Secret Service would have to furlough some of their employees. But by cutting out the tours they do not have to furlough the employees? What am I missing here?

I just thought the comment was weird. I was just seeing if someone could explain it to me better than I understood it.

Isn't it absolutely amazing how when Fletcher was in office here the Dems wouldn't let him rely on the everybody does it excuse but they jump up with it when it's their guy? I thought that those of you that were so "enlightened" to vote for Obama did so because he was going to change politics as usual. Seems to me that if All Presidents and Politicians do it. fits this then those of you that supported him because he was going to change the way Washington operates would be livid. What I see is a whole lot of apologists.

Don't put words in my mouth. I never said he was going to change the way Washington operates. I'm not that naive! If you notice that's just about every politician talking point when they are trying to get elected.

He said he was going to change the way Washington operates. If you are willing to give him a pass on that is there anything he can do that you will hold him accountable for or are you just such an ideologue that as long as he pushes an agenda you agree with he can do whatever he wants?

I have a few comments (not that I expect anyone to care)....but!

 

1) The SS is probably making a point that they have to furlough people because of the sequestration and lack of funding thus we have to cut back activities.

2) Obama is OK then, I will just blame the SS for cutting the tours.

 

I remember a lesson learned early in my career...its not good practice to blame people in the organization under you and wins one no respect. Personally, I find the Vidale Sassoon approach much more successful..."if you don't look good, I don't look good"."

$74K per week is "only" $4 million per year. Regardless of whether this

was initiated by the WH or the SS, this cut seems to be primarily for PR purposes; let the public feel the pain. I would like to see a breakdown of the entire budget for the SS. How much does each trip for Michelle or President Obama cost (whether it be for official trips, trips on The View,

vacations, etc). What else could have been cut (not necessarily eliminated) to appease the budget demands?
