Well here's where you're wrong. Coach Shields had 3 girls. No boys! So l'm not really sure who you're talking about.

I wasn't talking about Coach Shields, I was Talking about Bobby Knight and Pat Knight when he played for him at Indiana. I never said anything about Coach Shields.

I quoted the other post but was referencing the post RRC made about several coaches including bob Knight.

You can say all you want to defend it...it's not right. Have not seen one other coach lose their composure that much in any situations this year. None. Are they are doing a bad job. She does it multiple times a game! You say she motivates them. There are plenty of other ways to motivate kids without screaming at them in their face. You say you don't like Bobby Knight, but he wins! Why don't you like Bobby Knight. Because of his tactics??? I bet the kid he choked doesn't send him a Christmas card. And yes, some will defend him, but many others came out and couldn't stand him. Others transferred. You say many want to play for her. Well I have an AAU Organization full of parents and kids (about 125 kids) that tell me they would never let their kid play for her. In fact, they look for ways not to (meaning move out of the district). It swings both ways.

What did she get out of them this year? They were very average in my opinion. They won an average district. Then went to region and got beat by 30 once they played a good team. They had a D1 player on their roster. They played another senior. They have a super soph in the switzer girl and they they have very athletic Junior in Knotts. Not trying to put their team down, but if she was a miracle worker that you make her out to be, she should of had a better season. She did have some things to work with this year. Still an average year.

I've been managing people at a very respected firm for 15 years and I've never had to scream at someone to earn their respect. In fact, they teach us quite the opposite. Many different ways to earn respect. One is to carry yourself the way you'd want your students, workforce, etc to carry themselves. Not blow up when things don't go as planned.

So what I'm hearing is...it's okay to belittle a kid, spit in their face, embarrass them in front of hundreds of people, if you pat them on the butt and tell them nice job at the end of the day? Abuse them all you want as long as you compliment them in the end. That makes a lot of sense!

If you respect people, they will respect you!

Again, I am as hardcore competitive as they come, but my kid would NEVER play for her.

Noone has answered my question. Is it okay because she wins at the high school level?? If she had a .500 record or it was her first year coaching and you saw this picture, would you still be defending her?

Hopefully you don't yell at people at work!

In the post you responded to, I was replying to a post about Ken Shields from someone else. That's why he thought you were also talking about Ken Shields. I could care less about Bobby Knight. Him and Nell are from the same mold, from what i've seen. She just hasn't choked anyone yet. We'll see what happens if no superstars land on her doorstep in the next couple years. she'll really have to coach.

You mean like she did this year?

I wonder what you think they will do next year?

I thought they performed pretty good for a team with 2 SR's 1 JR and 4 sophomores that got the majority of playing time this year. Next year they will have 1 Sr starting so I guess if Nell wins another district title with such a young team you will consider it a failure.

RCC9, Where do I begin? First off you said you've never seen a coach ever yell at players. You haven't seen any high school football games then, I can garuntee that.

You asked what they did this year because according to you they were average at best. They won the district, they also beat the team that won regionals in SK.

Show me where I said it's ok to scream at someone at work. You can't comprehend much apparently. You are insane if you say coaches never yell, and you are a sports fan? Have you ever watched any game? I would guess you have, the games where everyone gets a ribbon for participation and a hug from the coaches at every timeout.

I never said she had a great team that should of won it all. They were avg and yet this so called avg team that wasn't supposed to do anything still cut down the nets in the district Tournament. I think your problem is you simply refuse to give credit where credit is due. Your hatred for someone you know nothing about has blinded any ability for you to see Nell Fookes in an unbiased way period.

You don't like Nell? That's fine, but some of the ridiculous statements you made just made you sound silly. When someone makes an idiotic comment that coaches don't yell at their players explains to me all I need to know.

You'd never make it in the military.

I said "yell like that", when referring to the other bball coaches I watched this year. And I didn't miss a HHS football game and I never saw Dale do any of that on the field. Is he successful???

And wow, you need to do a little research before you write. What region did SK win??? And yes, Boone has a couple nice wins, but also some bad losses. Equals average season. District was weak! Sorry. Dixie won their district too. Are they considered a good team?

Where did I say coaches shouldn't yell. But is that what you call that in that picture??? Yelling in practice and in the games is fine. But not like that. Not berating and belittleing a kid in front of hundreds. HHS coaches yell at my kid all the time, but never like that. Sorry you're wrong. I am by far the complete opposite of "everyone gets a trophy". If you read any of my posts anywhere, you could figure that out pretty quick. It's not about being overly sensitive when coaching. There is a line of when to stop. Something like above is not in line. I've coached AAU or competitive basketball for years..you think that's "everyone gets a trophy"? Absolutley not. The age I coached are freshman now. 4 of them were varsity starters this year, the others were all jv players that dressed varsity and two of them were 8th graders. Does that sound like we were an everybody gets a trophy team. Quite the opposite. You have no idea what you're talking about.

I also am a head coach of a high school sport and I can tell you that what she is doing in that picture is the exact opposite of what the KHSAA trains their coaches in their extensive training classes.

Dixie cut down the nets in their district too.

Idiotic comments like coaches shouldn't yell. I said they shouldn't yell like that...what is posted above. That's out of control...period. She has lost it in that picture. Yelling is fine. Getting in someone's tailend is fine...in the right setting. Have no problem with it at all. Losing your composure when things don't go your way is not good.

Have you ever coached girls???

And are you EVER going to answer my questions?

Military for adults is the same as high school basketball for girls...interesting!!!

You mean like she did this year?

What did ND do with one senior? There senior was D1 and so was Boone's. And honestly, ND was only 6 deep!

HHS started two freshman.

NCC had no seniors and started 2 juniors, two sophomores and a freshman, What does the age of the kids on the court have to do with it. If they can play (like switzer) what's it matter what grade they are in.

Boone will be average again...unless she gets a miracle transfer. A lot of focus was given to Jones when teams played them. Now the others will get the defensive attention when she is gone.

And are you EVER going to answer my questions?

Military for adults is the same as high school basketball for girls...interesting!!!

I'll be glad to answer your question....which one do you want me to answer, your posts are actually longer than mine so it's hard to dicipher which question you are referring to.

Now I will make a few comments. About your military remark. High School athletes are also the same age as some military personnel. I joined the military when I was 17 after I grauduated. There are high school players older than that.

The comment you make saying coaches can yell but not like that....what do you mean by that? You weren't at the game, you have no clue what was said or how long it went on...actually I was at the game and if you look closely at the picture how do you know she wasn't yelling at the referree? she does do that too....where is she looking? My point being is you jump to too many conclusions with little evidence to back up your conclusions.

She was yelling at the players on this particular pic to save you time, but you see my point.....look at the pic. What I'm trying to say is you have no idea what was said. you are so determined to think she belittled and degrated the player yet you really don't know what was said do you?

To answer your question about me coaching girls. Yes I coached a girls softball team back in the early 90's...they were 10 year olds and no i didn't yell at them, it wasn't my style. I also coached soccer before I had kids and I did yell sometimes at the players on that team, you have to know how to motivate different players and know how certain players will respond and how to get them to respond.

So what particular question do you want me to answer?

Actually why would the others "get the defensive attention" when JJ is gone? If you knew anything about Boone this year you would know JJ was a defensive player more than anything. She was a great defender, not the offensive player you're alluding to. The other players on Boone were more of the offensive scoring than JJ.

So please answer my quesiton. What do you think Boone will do next year? saying they will be avg doesn't really answer the question especially when you say the rest of the district is avg. Will they win Districts? Will they make it to the finals of district?

The age of the players doesn't matter to me, i brought it up because apparently you ddon't think they will be any good because they lost JJ and their big girl to Graduation. You said they wouldn't do anything unless they get a great player transfer. So I'm trying to see what you think they will do if they don't get a "Star transfer" since you don't think Nell is a good coach I'm guessing you think they will be under .500 and lose in the first round of districts.

I'll be glad to answer your question....which one do you want me to answer, your posts are actually longer than mine so it's hard to dicipher which question you are referring to.

Again you're wrong. I was at the game. They played right before our game and I saw this particular incident. My wife actually commented on it. And yes, she was an athlete too.

Here's the question:

Is it okay because she wins at the high school level?? If she had a career .500 record or it was her first year coaching and you saw this picture, would you still be defending her?

And just for the record, how old is the girl in the pic? Is she going into the military next year? You don't have to answer that one. I know.

Here is my answer, and you being a coach also should understand this.

It's not about yelling or not yelling. Every coach has their own style and every coach uses different methods of getting their points across, neither one is right or wrong because it all depends on each person.

Now I do draw the line if yelling is detremental to a player and it doesn't stop.

I don't think it matters if you're a 1st year coach or a 40 year coach. From what I understand Nell has always been intense like that and it's apparently her style.

Now what I will say is that if it was her first year coaching and the kids didn't know what to expect then I wouldn't blame any kid for dropping off the team etc. The point is Nell has been coaching since something like 1984 and every player who is playing for her knows what she is like and they still choose to play for her. So I don't think it's as bad as you want to make it out to be. Everyone of those players knew before they started playing for her what it was going to be like and yet they still play for her.

Something else you keep bringing up that is interesting. You have said several times things like "Until she gets another great transfer" IF she is such a bad coach, which you have referred to several times, then why would players want to transfer to Boone in the first place if they have to play for her? That is what really puzzles me the most about your remarks.

If she is such a bad coach, then why do so many "good players" want to transfer to play for her? I don't know the history of Boone Girls BBall but it sounds like you do and are bothered by the number of players transfering there.

Sorry, I almost forgot to answer your last question about if she was a .500 coach or if it was her 1st year and I just happened to see this pic would I still defend her. Maybe not, but I also wouldn't pursecute her like you have simply because I didn't know anything about her. I try not to jump to conlcusions. IF everone jumped to immediate conclusions before knowing of the subject at hand then this world would be a sad sad place.

Actually why would the others "get the defensive attention" when JJ is gone? If you knew anything about Boone this year you would know JJ was a defensive player more than anything. Well I can tell you that our focus was to keep JJ from driving and getting to the basket...at all costs. If we could keep her out of the lane, we would win. We were to sag and help where needed. We also played a lot of zone so she couldn't get in the lane. We let her shoot from the outside, but everyone's attention was on where she was. Our best defender guarded her when we went man. That means that a best defender will now move to a different player. They won't have the threat of JJ breaking you down off the dribble and kicking to shooters. They lose a lot more than just a defender in JJ. So I can confirm (and have to believe several other teams did the same thing) our entire gameplan was setup to stop two players. JJ and switzer. Now JJ is gone.

I can't predict the future. They may win the district I have no idea. But it shouldn't be a great accomplishment. Ryle loses a lot off an average team. They have a lot in the pipeline, but are probaby another year away. Conner loses the majority of their scoring and become young next year. I think Myers is a great player, but how will the young ones gel with her. Again, a ton in the pipeline, but I wouldn't call them great next year. Again, the winner of that district will have won a very average district. It doesn't really matter because noone will compete with ND and NCC. Holy cross should be fairly strong if they keep improving, but that's about it. ND and NCC will be the two big dogs and everyone else can be thrown in the pot. So it really makes no difference at all what I think Boone will do in their average district. They may win it, but that doesn't make her a genious. Who really cares about the district anyway???

Well you have to be one of the 2 best teams in that tournament to have a chance to go down state so I think there are a lot of people that care about districts.

I don't think I ever called Nell a genius. What I didn't do was basically call her a bad coach like you have.

ND and NCC will be the team to beat in regions next year, I agree with that, but does that mean they are the best coaches also?

I don't know if they are or aren't, just asking the question because apparently it sounds like you base good coaching on how a team does in regionals, unless of course it's a Nell coached team, and then you say it's only because she had good players. So it sounds to me you will never give her any credit due to your hatred toward the lady.

New Boone football coach? :D

Can you show me where I said she was a bad coach. Never said that. I'm not referring to her stratigies or tactical thinking. Or pracitice planning or game plans. I'm sure she does a great job at those things. If she didn't, then I would say she is a bad coach. I don't agree with the way she treats her players. If they are okay with it, that's fine. I said I'm not and my daugther would never play for her...and I'm not the only one that feels that way.

It puzzles me they would want to transfer there honestly. I can't answer that question. I'm not sure what goes on to get them there or why that's attractive. To me, that would be like someone transferring to go play for Billy Gillespie! I'm kidding!! Not that bad!

Not jumping to conclusions. I saw it live and also saw two other Boone games this year. In all 3 games, this was a very similar scene on multiple occasions with multiple kids. Maybe the Boone families and players can blow it off as "it's just Nell"...."she wins high school girls basketball games, so it's fine!" But you're right, from the outside looking in, it sure doesn't look good! But maybe that's none of my business. But it is on posted on this site.

I, along with many others have asked themselves the same questions about "why in the world would any kid want to transfer there?" There is obviously a reason. Not sure what it is, but there is a reason or they wouldn't go there.

I'll just say, look at this kid's body language and face and really try to make yourself believe she's okay with it. She may tell you she is, but looking at that pic, she's not. Look in Nell's eyes and tell me she hasn't lost it at this point. She is beyond "motivating players" in that picture.
