When does spring football start this year?

Good Sr class leaving yes. Luke Bir returns at RB. Wagner and/or Dressman at QB depending on how they want to play it. Defense will be solid with Burchell in the middle. Solid young talent backing up. I think hey will be fine.

 

Fine is relative. Agree they have some nice talent coming back. Much of it, though, hasn't had the chance to show themselves at the varsity level. Add in that Dave's offense is QB-centric and he will have a rookie running it and you have to say "let's see." Nothing more than that. Wags may come in and be a great QB. We simply do not know yet.

 

No burner at running back that I can see which hurt them last season. Bir is a strong , hard-nosed back. He is not a breakaway threat though.

 

How many departures are there on defense?

 

And let's be honest regarding Dressman. He hasn't shown the ability to stay on the field so counting on him to carry the O may be risky.

I think anything less than 7-3 would be a major disappointment. Moeller and HHS are the only two games that they will for sure be the underdog. Don't know enough about Henderson County. Beechwood is a year or two away from that rivalry being a toss up. If Wirth is still the HC ( which he will be he won't get the La Salle job, didn't want the Boone job), his defense will be good enough to beat everyone but Moeller and of course HHS. I looked back at the last two years and now this year. CovCath has done a nice job of scheduling to their talent. I know some of it has been because of the district re-alignment but that doesn't account for switching St. X for Conner and Ryle for Boone. Very smart move by whoever is responsible for the scheduling.

Agree on all counts though I will say Bir has what takes to be a very special RB. He didn't have as much opportunity to show it last season splitting time with the Sr Beatrice not to mention it wasn't as necessary with his brother back there slinging it.

 

All that being said I still think 8-2 is realistic. 7-3 at the least.

CovCath will be 8-2 with that schedule..The schedule seems a little on the weak side besides HHS and Moeller..

 

Compared to past schedules anyway. Although I don't think it looks that weak on paper. Campbell, Boone, Dixie and Ryle are 6A schools. Moeller is Moeller. Henderson County is 6A(and also the Colonels, if that means anything). Never heard of Bye. Highlands is Highlands. Beechwood is a big rival. The next two are district duds, and they close out the season against Conner who beat them last year.

 

All things considered, I like this years schedule.

Schedule was revised to the new dates of 4/8 thru 4/26 (actually 4/27 as I think Sat the 27th will be the spring game.)

I agree and just like last year CovCath can ill afford an injury to Mr. Bir. Last year it was Blake, this year it is Luke. If Luke were to go down, there would be a big hole to fill.

 

From what I saw of the Wagner kid last year, I think he will be a great fit for the Spread. He doesn't throw anywhere near as good as Bir, but he runs it a whole lot better.

How do we know? We haven't seen the varsity QB play. Can he throw at the varsity level? Do they have a stud back to replace some of Bir's offensive production?

 

Good senior class is leaving.

 

Way too early to have an educated guess re: Colonels.

Not saying you are wrong, just my opinion that CovCath beats Conner. I'm not close to the program, but know them well enough to know they are talented.

I know last time I heard from Coach Wirth, they were having trouble deciding what to do with the weeks 4 and 5, with their bye week to determine the two. Obviously it's ideal to have the bye week going into Highlands. If I remember correctly, Wirth was saying that there was a more desirable game option, however, the week before Highlands. It would appear that the Henderson game was just somewhat of a slot-filler.
