Top Pitchers in the 9 Region

Featured Replies

The only problem I have had with listing the top pitchers is the fact that the majority of those listed are listed mainly because of how hard they throw. When there are some great pitchers in the area that may not throw in the high 80's but have some great off speed pitches and incredible control.

I keep thinking back to last year alone and 2 of the best and most effective pitchers Cooper had the second half of the season were 2 pitchers who aren't known for throwing hard. AJ Collins has a wicked knuckle ball and Collin Smith can paint the corners with a great breaking ball. Neither one of them will overpower you, but man when they are on they are about as un-hittable as you will get.

I would be willing to bet that there are several others in the area that will end up being more affective for their teams than the hard throwing pitchers on the same staff.

OK.....somehow this got way off the subject. This was list your top ten. Not talk about a kid throwing 90, what kids did last year or this or that kid should be on the list. Just make a list.....pretty simple. Put the kids out there you feel on the top pitchers. Bluebirdman seems to be the only one that followed directions other than adding some other kid or kids from another region. I like it though, so open it up to NKY boys.

Not going to deny you can be effective and not throw 80+, but I will say that a catcher can also "Butcher" a kid that throws harder just because it's tougher for them to catch someone throwing like that. That can be seen a lot in HS Baseball unless you have a stud behind the dish that can handle the heat. Now back to our top 10!

CovCath Ben Heppler and how well does he pitch? Perfect game in a JV game early in the season then threw a 2 hitter vs. Holy Cross Varsity

For the year varsity ^^^

1. Dunn - Cooper

2. Verst - Brossart

3. Cain - NCC

4. Maines - Conner

5. Ganns - Boone

6. Ward - CC

7. Hoard - Ryle

8. Collins - Cooper

9. Suchanek - BW

10.Kuebbing - SH

My list:

1. Josh Cain - proven winner during the state playoffs. Velocity is low - topped out at 82 at a recent showcase, but until someone else pitches as well as he did in big games I will keep him at number 1.

2. Kuebbing - built like a pitcher. Doesn't leave the ball out over the plate. I agree, if Walt thinks he was the Colonels #1 that should go a long way.

3. Maines - a lot of upside, could jump to #1

4. Collins - he's a gamer and a winner. Doesn't throw the hardest but is smart and fields position well. If memory serves me right he was in a very low scoring pitching duel with the top pitcher from the area last year in the districts.

5. Dunn - throws hard but is inconsistent. I would go with Collins over Dunn in big games.

6. Verst - excellent pitcher, just wins, good fastball and off speed pitches

7. Heppler - not a thrower but a pitcher. Doesn't throw hard but has a wicked change up. Kids just don't square the ball up on him.

8. Ward - hard thrower, good upside in his senior season. Due to injury has not really pitch on the varsity level but can throw mid 80s.

9. Ganns - another big upside potential guy, lefty, intimating on the mound. Could move up higher if he can prove he can go deep into games.

10. Hoard - made himself into a good pitcher.

Don't agree, but your opinion just like all this is. This is what I'm talking about Redzone7.

Good call on Ward.I know he is coming off a injury any word on how he is doing?

Couldn't the same be said about a pitcher with great breaking stuff? I think it's harder for a catcher to catch someone like that than someone who throws hard.

Someone who throws hard with late movement on their FB can be extremely hard to catch compared to the kid that doesn't throw quite as hard. I agree to a point about the breaking stuff. If a kid that throws a 75mph compared to a kid that throws 65mph. If both are equal in regards to both having good breaking balls the 75 would be harder IMO compared the the 65mph. It's just on the catcher quicker.

Very true. I guess I was talking about more pitches in the dirt from curve ball and knuckle ball pitchers which makes it tough on catchers.

Ryan Coots, Saint Henrys newest pitcher, puts Kuebbing to shame. Clocked at 92, this kid is fire. BE prepared for a scary season, the 9th region will be owned by SHDHS

I gotta question all these kids throwing mid to high 80's and low 90's. Where can I buy one of these guns so I can start clocking my kids? There seem to be a number of BGP members on here with scouting experience and they certainly don't make these outrageous statements.

88+ is the equivalent of the BPG 4.40 40 time.

It certainly seems like the kids throw much harder when BGP is giving away free memberships...
