For someone not familiar with the 9th Region school gyms, if the tournament wasn't held at NKU, what schools could hold the crowds? Are there any schools that could handle a crowd of 3,000+?

 

It is nice to see the NKU area being used successfully.

 

Holmes holds 3000. And I'm sure thats the biggest in the 9th.

 

Conner's capacity is about the same. Those are the only two I can think of.

My annual rant: I hate the region tourney at BOKC. I understand why the schools did it because it guarantees them more money. I get that.

 

Who remembers the 9th region finals DH last year? Deadsville. No atmosphere.

 

Sure you get a comfy seat. I'd rather be jammed in next to Jethro on a hard seat with no back in a packed gym with fans right on top of the playing court and student sections so loud that you can't hear the band.

 

NCC/Holmes was a perfect example. Should have been a great atmosphere. I was on the floor and hardly even noticed student sections.

 

Add in that the court court/gym leads to bad offensive basketball and it's to the point I quit being excited about high school ball after districts.

Ryle, in my opinion, is a great venue as well.

I have not missed a 9th region tournament since they moved to the BOK. I attended very few tournament games in the 10 years before. Maybe that makes me a whimp or not a big enough fan, but I just got tired of the mess trying to attend the games when they were still at the high schools. The traffic Tuesday night was a problem they need to fix, but beyond that I choose BOK without a second thought.

 

As to atmosphere, I will agree the big arena makes pure emotion get lost. I think part of that is also because you get more neutral fans at the BOK, versus the smaller gyms where only the schools' fans fight their way to get into the game. But when you get in that gym and floor at BOK, there is a big game atmosphere to it that should not be discounted.

 

I agree with Walter, I would be very surprised if there were less than 4,000 there Tuesday. There were a decent number of people in the upper arena. The only regional crowd that was may have been bigger was when the 9th and 10th held their finals there together. What was the attendance for that one?

Watch the Holmes/Newcath highlight videos...absolutely no way that game had less than 4k there. Somewhere between 6k and 7k would be my guess.

 

Nope. 4,000 people. And by watching the video, the entire North endzone upper arena is empty. There are more rows of seating in that section than anyother section in the arena. (I know the buidling like the back of my hand). There are many open seats in the lower arena endzones and the top rows of the sideline upper level. Judging by that the number I was given looks correct.

I wasn't there, how full was the upper arena and bleacher section to the naked eye? For any event that has been there it always looks like there is more people there than there actually is.

Gotta a go, I am not at all doubting your numbers but if they are true, then the BOKC is in much more in a world of hurt, trouble as a venue than I thought.

15 minutes at a concession stand at a sporting event is no time at all....:confused:

 

Parking is always going to be an issue with the BOKC, it always has been, not sure why anyone would expect anything different with this. You can only go through turnabouts so quick. :lol:

The question is, are the 3,979 from Tuesday night and the 6,615 from 2009 finals DH include just paid attendees or paid and those that had passes.. That could jump the number a couple hundred.

The Holmes/NewCath game at the BOK that I attended had full lower arena endzones. I don't think that my eyes were playing tricks on me. Pretty much the whole lower arena was full also with fans perhaps in 1/4 of the upper section that I could see (couldn't see the upper section above me). There might've been empty single seats in the lower sections scattered about because perhaps some didn't want to sit alone or climb over so many to get to them. After the game was over there was a mass exodus, leaving not too many folks for the Cooper/St. Henry game. I cannot estimate total but the lower section was indeed pretty full all around for the 1st game.
