Henry Clay 63 Dunbar 55 2OT

Final. Great game.

This Henry Clay team can win it all if they want to. I'm going off of their effort in the Joe B Hall Classic. It was the best performance I've seen all year. And I've seen a bunch of games this year!

I'm just getting in from the games...this one was an instant classic. Pretty tough call by the ref in second OT to call an intentional foul. That pretty much wrapped it up.

Gary definitely grabbed him around the waist, but I agree the official should have just called a common foul. I actually thought Grundy's grab in transition in the first overtime was just as bad.

Dunbar had Henry Clay in the first overtime. Up 4 and Smith missed a layup. Dunbar had all the momentum at that point and I thought Henry Clay would have folded if Dunbar went up 6. Seconds later Dunbar gave HC an easy 2 points with a foul. After Smith's miss, HC went on an 11-0 run (4 to forced second OT and first 7 of 2nd OT),

It was a great high school game in terms of atmosphere and competitiveness.

Yeah i agree. Grundy's foul was pretty much the same. Ref probably should've just called common fouls on both. Either way, Jordan Green really took over in crunch time. His dunk over #50 was as good as it gets.

I loved it when Henry Clay fans chanted "this is our house!" and Madison Central fans came of nowhere with "wait til Friday!"

RICHMOND — Henry Clay's basketball team has been on a dizzying roller-coaster the last seven weeks, but the Blue Devils were smiling after the wild ride they took in their 11th Region opener Tuesday night.

Henry Clay knocked off No. 8 Paul Laurence Dunbar 63-55 in double-overtime in an up-and-down gut-wrencher in Eastern Kentucky University's McBrayer Arena.

"That's what the 11th Region is about — survival," Blue Devils Coach Daniel Brown said. "I gotta give my guys a lot of credit for hanging in there. We could've let it slip away, but we kept fighting."

Henry Clay was 15-2 and No. 5 in the state on Jan. 10, but it went a confounding 7-7 after that, including a 19-point loss to Scott County in the district finals last week.

But the now unranked Devils rediscovered their mojo against Dunbar and will play No. 3 Madison Central in the semifinals Friday. The Indians beat Franklin County 85-49 in the nightcap Tuesday.

It was a very spirited and enjoyable basketball game.

Henry Clay battled in the second half. It shows the boys are not ready to end their season just yet. It was good to see because we have all seen them pack it in before.

The intentional foul at the during the second overtime was a poor and unnecessary call. I do not know the exact rule in the officials handbook, but the unwritten/common sense rule is to call the personal and leave it at that. Poor decision, in my opinion, by that 6th region official.

I am hoping for a great game on Friday from the Blue Devils. It is ashame that Christen Cunningham is not at full strength because Henry Clay needs to hit on all cylinders to defeat a fine, balanced Madison Central team. There will be loads of talent on the floor and I look forward to the Friday doubleheader.
