Maybe I've missed them, but I haven't seen you make many predictions, so I'm glad you did here. I know that in the first game Grant was not happy with his D against Bolden on the high screen. I guarantee you they've worked on it A LOT since not only that last game but since Saturday morning. I think you'll see them let the screener dive and double Bolden to not let him penetrate easily and/or shoot that 3.

Amazing, Amazing, Amazing..........just because the bench doesn't score a bunch of points doesn't mean they lack depth, this is pure nonsense. :ohbrother:

 

Devoto and Dupont are both excellent ball-handlers. Devoto is without question the "toughest" kid on the team and plays solid "D" when called upon. Dupont is more than capable of putting the ball in the hoop. Weyer and Franzen are more than capable of providing "quality" minutes to give the "bigs" a break and if need be garner a bucket or two.

 

To add to that, Dupont might be the best shooter in the region that nobody knows about. Kid flat out fills it up from outside in practice but never shoots during a game. I've watched him multiple times hit 8, 9, and 10 in a row going around the perimeter.

 

I will say though that Newcath isn't as potent offensively with the bench in there. Defensively, they are still solid.

1st quarter- Newcath killed Holmes on the glass at both ends and got second chance points on several possessions, including their first basket of the game where Seibert hit a jumper that had Coston let go out of bounds, would've been Holmes' ball. Holmes also forced a lot of shots and were in too big of a rush. No movement offensively either. A lot of standing around and waiting to see what Bolden did, despite Booher screaming to run the offense. Holmes also didn't try to trap and press like Booher probably would've liked. 3 by Housely to end the quarter was huge. NCC did a great job stopping penetration by the Holmes guards and forwards from the free throw line.

Just saw Englemon's second foul not even 10 seconds in to the qtr...horrible call as Schulte had his forearm in Englemon's chest and he took his arm over Schulte's to keep him from getting position. Ref called a hold. You either let them play or call a double foul. Couldn't call a foul one way or the other and get it right.

This match-up will be the 1st game Tuesday night (Feb. 26th) at The Bank of Kentucky Center on the campus of NKU. Everyone knows how game one went down when these two "titans of the hardwood" did battle at the Fieldhouse back on Feb. 8th.

He really hurt them when Pangallo would penetrate in the first quarter. Also got several back side rebounds and blocked a couple Chames shots. The one time Holmes made the right rotation on that play, Englemon got a big block on Schulte that led to Holmes' bucket at other end.

Right after Englemon goes out, freshman Arnold comes in, Holmes gets a stop and then turn it over at the other end as Bolden starts the offense and Arnold runs to the wrong spot, leading to Bolden pass going out of bounds.

 

Next play down, they go inside to Schulte v Arnold and a goal tend is called on Chames even though the ball went in. 21-15 instead of 19-17 or 19-18 if Holmes scores on first possession.

 

Bolden missed jumper. Arnold foul on Schulte at other end.

 

In bounds to Pangallo, Schulte back door cut by Arnold for basket....first three possessions through Schulte, 2 baskets. 23-15.

 

Next 2 possessions- Coston jumper, Beuter jumper. Three straight scores for Newcath.

 

Coston takes off balanced shot, McDonald rebound. Pangallo misses shot, Seibert o reb, Schult and one on Arnold. FT good. 28-17 NCC 5:01 til half....this pretty much set the tone for the rest of the quarter.

If Bolden attacks the rim, he can get Newcath in a lot of foul trouble. 5 fouls called on NCC so far with him drawing them with his penetration.

 

Also, Holmes has outscored Newcath 11-4 with Newcath having 1 or 2 bench players in so far....at around the 3 or 4 min mark right now.

Second quarter finished...end of qtr Holmes goes zone and Beuter drains a 3. Huge to give them momentum for the run they put on Holmes in the 3rd quarter.

Third quarter

 

Newcath goes to Schulte right away who scores over Englemon. Foul called on Coston for apparent push. Newcath misses shot, Holmes doesn't box out and Schulte gets loose ball and bucket less than 30 seconds in to the quarter...39-28.

 

Two rushed shots in a row lead to baskets for Newcath at the other end.

 

Just watched the play Clyde asked me for video of with McDonald charge....it was a good call. Englemon rotated over and set up for the charge before Drew went in to him.

End of third quarter...Holmes rushed a lot of shots that quarter but rebounded better at both ends toward the end after Newcath went on a run.

 

Biggest thing I'm seeing so far is that Holmes just has to play smarter. They are rushing shots and gambling too much on defense which is giving Newcath good looks around the rim.
