I agree that this info is going to get out and that is the way things are now. The Internet is not going away. That's why I think it is important to support BGPreps because this site handles/manages that reality as well as I can imagine it being done.

 

The rules here, moderators, etc. add to the credibility of BGP as a forum and source of information.

I look at it as if "coaches" are public figures anymore. Heck, good HS football coaches are darn near celebrities in their home cities. So, it would seem almost impossible to me to keep the lid on something like that for very long. Everyone, including the secretary's husband and the office manager's spouse is looking for the scoop when it comes to coaches...which is why I laugh when people put a microphone in front of a coach who is looking at a job and the expectation is that the coach is going to tell the truth...not realistic in this day and age for most of them. They would be better served with a "No Comment".

Considering that a Freedom of Information Act request can be filed to see who applies for public school jobs then I'd say that expectation is no longer real.

 

Actually you are quite wrong here. The "expectation" of confidentiality for APPLICANTS is part of the hiring process. No one has a right to that knowledge (civil litigation has proven this time and again asI read it). A HIRE is a public record and is covered under the open records law. Applying for a position where you may or may not get so much as an interview should NEVER be public domain.

Just sp we are clear this is high school, not 6 and 7 figure college and pro jobs. And we are dealing with kids not guys on scholarship or getting paid millions for playing the game. It can have an extreme effect on them. My issue is if it is not true, the rumor bugs on BGP dont get hurt but another man and his family and their program do. Just a thougth before we all go flapping at the gums about stuff. JMO

While not fair, it's true. You are exactly right.

 

A school(s) head football coach and head basketball coach are a lot of times more known than the principal and superintendent (well, maybe not more known, but just as much).

 

I mentioned this to a grad school professor of mine once before. He had listed the most influential/know public figures of a school district. He listed several different positions. I brought up football and basketball coaches. He didn't much like it. But, it's fact.
