Look I can totally agree that Penick has more skill and talent and potential than anyon in the 9th Region. But its not how much you have but what you can do with it. Penick isn't given as much credit as some think he deserves because of how he plays. Truthfully thats the only reason. Not because he goes to a small school. Small school has nothing to do with it. Thats never stopped Ronny Dawn or Micheal Romes or Micheal Schmidt from getting the credit they deserve. Whether I like or it not, the truth is Penick isn't a old fashioned big man like everyone wants him to be. Thats a good reason why he doesn't get the credit you think he shoud get.

 

You are right, he is not an old fashion big man. Not just some big guy who stands under the basket and just drops the ball into the hole. He's quick and plays his best facing the basket. Runs the floor and passes as well as anyone in the area and if he plays for one of the perrenial powers in NKY (CCH, Holmes, NewCath, Dixie) he would be one of the top 5 players in the state. This year Dan has been given a little more leeway to do some of the things he is more comfortable doing and in the last month I believe his skills are really starting to shine thru..I won't try to compare him to Ronnie Dawn because they are 2 totally different type of players and Dawn did go Div.1 but as far as the other 2 you mention they just don't have the same upside as Dan. Not sure where Schmidt went if anywhere and Romes will probably end up at Mt St. Joe, Thomas More or maybe NKU. Dan will play Div.1 in either the MAC, OVC or maybe the Horizon Conf. Just a different level of talent that many recruiters from the conferences I've mentioned are all very much interested in..

I believe that Dan is the only 9th region 05-06 senior that will get a D-1 scholly for next year. That speaks for itself.

Penick should not be criticized because he doesn't fit the mold of the traditional big high school player. I've never watched him but it sounds like he likes to play facing the basket and has some ball skills. 6'9 and ball skills is not very common.

 

We didn't criticize JD while he was at Ryle, right?
