Abortion Rights vs. Gun Rights

Featured Replies

She introduced a bill that no rational person believes has a snowball's chance in hell of passing. When will people start looking at such legislation with objectivity? And, yeah...the NRA's "they're gonna take your guns" message is loud, clear and pure hyperbole designed to incite.

NRA is a lobby group just like the aclu who has intentions that are well stated. One has an objective of outright support of the first amendment the other the outright support of the 2nd . The NRA coming to aid of gun rights shouldn't be shocking.

Personally I know as long as GOP controls the house her bill has no where to go. But there is an election in 2014 and we have a president who supports her bill. I don't find the fear to be misguided it is real in an on going battle.

So, where is your outrage and plethora of threads about the outrageous taxes on alcohol? Tobacco? Gaming?

There was plenty of outrage when Obama raised tobacco tax after telling the American public he wouldn't raise taxes on middle or lower class Americans. But right now this is the current fight and the current topic. I can't list all the problems I have with our system every time I'm making a point I apologize.

We are in a thread regarding guns.

Actually, the topic includes abortion rights as well. But, I am not the one who introduced the generalization of taxes, I just tried to pin point where you guys are on specific other taxes to gauge whether the taxes proposed in the gun legislation is the issue, or if (as stated by other posters) increased taxes already in place outrage you all as well. I'm not seeing the same level of outrage.

For the record, I am totally fine with all of the existing, as well as the proposed. If I want to purchase whatever is wanted, I will pay the increased tax.

Low and middle income Americans (not lower class) are not the only Americans affected by the increased taxes, and those taxes are on "luxury" products. The choice to purchase or not is purely that of the buyer.

I think I stated twice I was equally outraged for all similar taxes?

Isn't that what's done with tobacco and alcohol?

Is it right to do? No.
So....you are against the "luxury" taxes on tobacco and alcohol as well? Or just ammo/arms?

I'm against them.

All "sin" taxes impact lower income individuals the most because they have the least amount of of income for discretionary expenses.

Let me ask this. Where has the cost gone up for those that manufacture guns?
Putting on additional workers to meet demand for one. We've added several employees just for what we do.
I occasionally drink as well and have been blessed to make a nice living. If you TRULY want to force a change then you have to stop buying alcohol. Pols can listen to bitching and moaning all day and not bat an eye as long as the liquor sales are flowing. No incentive to change their ways.
Not buying guns would play right into what the left wants.
Government did NOT create that artificial demand. Alarmists exaggerating what is happening created that demand. The NRA talking points that take over the airwaves when a mass shooting occurs, coupled with an almost irrational fear of the government by some private citizens create the artificial demand. And I'm pretty sure the industry is laughing all the way to the bank.

Who do you talk to in the industry that tells you that? I'm telling I'm hearing different. You're taking a stab in the dark and missing completely. I hear it every day, so.....
They did threaten supply, which affects demand and the cost. Supply and demand are two sides of the same coin. You affect one, you will affect the other.

You're way off base.

Another thing being ignored is what the cost to manufacturers is of the weapons included in their silly ban. It weighs heavily on these companies.
I have a hard time swallowing the supply and demand stuff! I have a hard time seeing it with gas, although I accept it. But I can go to Walmart or any other store and find that when an item is popular the price goes down. Every time you hear, but this time is different, no, no it's not. Both sides are out of touch in certain areas as well.
Oh, this time is different, I can tell you that first hand. You're not seeing what I'm seeing or hearing what I'm hearing. People simply do not trust this administration on this issue. Far worse than it was in the 90s.
I'm pretty sure I already stated that pols see this as a way to raise revenue regardless of what lip service is given. It will not impact behavior.

It's a great time to be selling guns. Gun owners see a chance to make extra profit based on real or unreal perceptions(irrelevant really). Of course, their business is one where they aren't selling disposable products so while they are making extra profit now it make just be moving future profits forward.

And it can and will hurt the industry later on. Saw it last time and sales were nothing like this.
