February 9, 201313 yr Sounds like a great opportunity to make extra money for the gun stores. Would you please quit acting like private gun owners are capitalizing because they are just trying to rake in. If you don't see why the price is increasing, plain and simple, you do not know basic economics and what happens when government uses the legal threats of force. The greediest entity in all this is the government. Trying to get their fair share of the pie. Edited February 9, 201313 yr by marvel completing a sentence.
February 9, 201313 yr Isn't that what's done with tobacco and alcohol? Sent from my DROID RAZR using Forum Runner Yeah, which Obama supported - with tobacco at least - and it raised taxes on a big portion of middle income Americans. Smokers = middle america.

February 9, 201313 yr In all cases though, people choose to pay the increased cost....or not. Nothimg is forced. Sent from my DROID RAZR using Forum Runner Government dictating behavior through price control is the very definition of force. I personally hate where our nation mindset has become where we are fine with the government treating us as children and they are the parents of all. Government works for me and they are the employee and I know what is best for me. This didn't happen overnight this has been developing over decades, but now is accelerating like a sickness without a cure.
February 9, 201313 yr So....you are against the "luxury" taxes on tobacco and alcohol as well? Or just ammo/arms? Sent from my DROID RAZR using Forum Runner
February 9, 201313 yr So....you are against the "luxury" taxes on tobacco and alcohol as well? Or just ammo/arms? Sent from my DROID RAZR using Forum Runner I am against all taxes meant to influence behavior including tax on tobacco and alcohol. Have an equal sales tax for all products is a means to generate revenue. Having higher taxes on certain products is nothing more than punishment for buying habits. As an adult if I purchase something its my responsibility to accept any consequences that product may cause.

In theory, we agree. However, we're not living in theory. My "it's cool" comment is simply based on the facts of the day. Taxes are slapped on a lot of items. Why should guns be any different?

February 9, 201313 yr In theory, we agree. However, we're not living in theory. My "it's cool" comment is simply based on the facts of the day. Taxes are slapped on a lot of items. Why should guns be any different? Why do I have to accept something as good just because some idiot politician thought it was a good idea in the past? I'm not one to accept the status quo just because it has happened before.
February 9, 201313 yr Why do I have to accept something as good just because some idiot politician thought it was a good idea in the past? I'm not one to accept the status quo just because it has happened before. Fine. Do you drink alcohol or smoke?
February 9, 201313 yr Let me ask this. Where has the cost gone up for those that manufacture guns? Government created an artifical demand with threats of gun control which then influenced the supply which changed the accepted price intersection. The answer is simple if government quits creating artifical demand the supply would increase which would cause the price intersection to decrease.
February 9, 201313 yr Government created an artifical demand with threats of gun control which then influenced the supply which changed the accepted price intersection. The answer is simple if government quits creating artifical demand the supply would increase which would cause the price intersection to decrease. So we agree there was no actual cost increase and the market took over by reacting to a huge increase in demand.
February 9, 201313 yr Fine. Do you drink alcohol or smoke? I like to drink. Don't smoke. But I'm also lucky enough to make a pretty good living. These price controls don't affect people like me. They affect lower income people who live paycheck to paycheck. I think its a joke I have to pay more because of some politicians crusade or money grab. But to act like because it doesn't affect you or I, it doesn't affect anyone is just naive.

If you TRULY want to force a change then you have to stop buying alcohol. Pols can listen to bitching and moaning all day and not bat an eye as long as the liquor sales are flowing. No incentive to change their ways.
February 9, 201313 yr So we agree there was no actual cost increase and the market took over by reacting to a huge increase in demand. Ignoring why demand increased ignores the core issue. Also ignores a key component of price setting. Cost of the supplier is irrelevant to the buyer. Its a pretty clear situation of artificial demand.
