How did they play 32 and still let each team score 13 to start the game? Are they just making up their own rules as they go?

 

Did the clock start with 8 min to play in the first? There was a total of 28 points scored in a short period of time within the framework of the game. You can grouse about other statistics, but there was 32 min logged whether you want to qualify them or not.

I'm certainly not going to complain about what has been done here, especially since it was the opposing coach's idea & there is a pre-existing relationship between him and the player in question.

 

I can't say for certain, but I feel like if I was the parent of said player I would express my genuine gratitude for the idea, but then I would ask that they not do this. If it was a basket or maybe even two baskets, it's a different scenario. But seven baskets would be taking it too far and placing too much emphasis on my kid.

 

Again, you never know how you'll act until the situation arises, but this is how I think I would treat this.

You said you would use the PPG as the number you would allow. I asked about 44 since Pistol Pete averaged that many. I'm still trying to discern what is too many? You gave a basis. I asked if you're consistent. Nothing more.

So, you want a black and white line on where this can be done for what? So you and the others are ok with it? I said in this case I'd have been all for him scoring 20, his avg. You act as if we are gonna legislate a high water mark for these as if they are going to become commonplace. Absurdity that we can't accept a good will gesture and move on.

I have a hard time believing if Randy Parker had coached Clyde Jr. in grade school and had a very close relationship with him that you wouldn't have come to coach spindoc and asked for a similar concession. I'd have conceded and we would have been on TV too. Why? Because it was the right thing to do for the kid and all of those involved. I'm not saying what they did was wrong. I don't think there is a universal right or wrong in a situation like this. I'm just answering the question as it was originally posed: If I was the parent of the player.

I now see that it was asked about Clyde Jr. I would never thinking of injuring Clyde Jr. But I would most definitely give a "sweep the leg" order if it was Clyde Sr.

The competition didn't start when the clock started. There are lots of games that are decided in minutes 31 and 32 of completition, while those minutes might have happened technically on the clock in ths game, the players didn't actually get to compete in minutes 31 and 32. If that isn't cheapening, what is?

It took 50 seconds. So, the game continued with a tie, just like 0-0, or 4-4, at the 7:10 mark. Still a 32 min contest. Instead it was 14-14. I see no cheapening of the competition. Unless it seemed to taint the effort for the remaining 31:10, which by the score it certainly didn't seem to.

Totally against it. It takes away from everyone that has managed to stay healthy and managed to score 1,000 points. I don't like the lesson that it gets across, "if you close but can't make, we will find a way for you to make it."

With 7:10 remaining in the first quarter, the score was 14-14. Each team had 7 uncontested baskets.

 

The game started with the tip, Trimble got the tip and scored. They then got the ball off of an inbound steal 6 more times for easy baskets. Then Carroll got the ball down the floor and Gibson scored. He then got 6 inbound steals for easy baskets and the officials called an injury timeout for him and he left the game with 7:10 to go in the first quarter. At that point, play resumed at regular pace.

No. It's obvious though you do. I don't think it cheapens it. I think that game will go down in the lore between the 2 schools as a classic, regardless of the outcome.
