My dad taught me to drive in Annapolis and Baltimore. Baltimore because it was a big city; Annapolis because he always said that I could drive in a town laid out around two circles (Church and State), I could drive anywhere.

My grandfather (the mayor's son) was slated to be named to the State Racing Commission in 1964. However, that got derailed when a Republican won the governorship for the first time in many years. The infamous Spiro Agnew.

You mean you can be trained to maneuver in those round-abouts? I think mid-western or southerners just lack the gene for round-abouts. Had to go through both today. The sports adage of 'head on a swivel' applies to drivers going through those.

Political appointments - risky, even for the usually party of power. Sorry to hear that happened.

No, just the vast majority of people who voted for him. Like me, I guess.

And me. I guess you could call me lazy...I do work at a resort. Every day is a great one. :D

So.....the majority of Americans are lazy, unproductive members of our society. Gotcha.

I would not think of lumping you in with this group.

No, just the vast majority of people who voted for him. Like me, I guess.

Not you either.

To say that there is not a large percentage of Obama voters who voted for him simply because they thought it would insure continued government handouts is to be disingenuous bordering on having one's head buried fully in the sand.

Sorry, but no. That is no more true than the contention that a large percentage of the people only voted for Romney because they are greedy rich people that hate black people. How about the notion that most people that voted have a sincere love of country and voted for the candidate they felt offered the best leadership for the country we all love.

Sorry but no I'm not buying that. I believe it applies to you and to the other Obama supporters that post here and maybe even most of the people that voted for Obama, but I do firmly believe that there was a large percentage of people who voted for Obama simply because they felt like he was going to give them something.

I can agree with the bolded. I felt he was going to give us strong leadership a positive vision of what our future can be. I suspect most of the people that voted for him feel that way. I suspect that most of Gov. Romney's voters felt the same way about him.

With all due respect I don't think it's possible to disagree with you more. Leadership doesn't mean doing everything in your power to alienate those who disagree with you and yet that's what I feel Obama is doing. He preaches bipartisanship and yet continues to make proposal after proposal that he know the opposition will vehemently oppose, that has little chance of passage and serves no purpose other then to enhance the class warfare that he has embraced and to further fracture his opponents. His recent gun speech with the human shield is a perfect example. I truly believe that Obama is the most divisive president in my lifetime.

We will have to disagree. I think that President Obama's biggest mistakes of his first term have been to give the Republicans too much in his initial proposals. Since he starts out by giving a lot, he looks inflexible when he doesn't give more. Take the stimulus. He started by making over a third of the bill Republican ideas for tax cuts. Since he had already given them all they were likely to get from the final bill, the republicans were free to unite against it. The health care bill incorporated a lot of Republican ideas. He gave them without insisting on anything from the Republicans in return. Sorry, I think that if the Republicans ever decide they want to do anything except say no, they will find a President that will be willing to buck his own party. As long as he gets nothing but opposition from the Republicans regardless of what he proposes, he will have to get by with just Democrat votes. That isn't being divisive, it is refusing to give the minority a veto over anything you do.

My college peers tell me Republicans threatened to take away their college loan money. Mitt Romney didn't get their vote (mine either)

To say he didn't garner votes because of his promises to keep certain entitlements in place or expand them is just plain dumb. Whether people think they've earned them or they're lazy and want them, that was a part of his platform and helped him get elected....especially among college kids worried of getting their money taken. (that was never ours to begin with)

His healthcare plan was a Gingrich republican style plan. It's not a true form of small government the republicans/Jeffersonians traditionally support.

Well, I suppose it's all in how you look at it. I happen to believe that the country has a strong interest in getting kids educated. It is good for the country. So if someone votes for the candidate that pledges to make it easier for young people to get an education, are they voting for the guy who will "give them something" or are they voting for the candidate that is putting forth a program that is good for the country? Sometimes a little bit of both. If I vote for the candidate that I feel has policies that are best for the overall health of the economy, am I voting for the good of the country or am I voting to make sure there will be taxpayers that can pay for the SS and Medicare I plan to collect someday. Maybe a little bit of both. When Eisenhower proposed the interstate system ws he proposing a big government boondoggle or was he making an important invetment in the country's future?

If you don't place at least a minimum amount of blame on Republicans like Boehner and McConnell, then I can only find your position wholly partisan.
