Last time in early December the Cards were able to get a big win against a young bunch of Hounds up in London. Will this game be closer than the first? I'd like to think it will be on account of it being at Corbin this time. Corbin also had developed a solid roation and the football guys are seeming to be in better shape. Also in the first game I counted 34 turnovers for the Hounds despite the paper saying less. If Corbin can protect the ball better against South's defense and hit some of the shots that they weren't in the early season, they could make a game out of it. I think the combo of Cashen and Crawford would be the best duo to bring the ball up against South.

About the game..... Let's be real, the Redhound's dont stand much of a chance. I say SL by ALOT, but not as much as the first meeting. It will be closer then before because it is at Corbin, this is a big rivalry, and Corbin has improved. But so has SL, and I dont see Corbin making a game out of it, let alone winning it.

 

About what you said..... I totally agree. However..... you stop Hammonds and Smith, then Proffitt and Allen come alive. SL just has too many weapons to contain them all. Corbin will pick their poison, but they will still have to drink it.

 

SL has been up and down, but I believe they are back on track (evidenced by a win over #7 Lafayette and a strong showing against NCH). If SL is indeed back to "championship" form, then Corbin could be in for a long night!

 

The crowd will play a huge factor in the game as it did in the first game. However, I see the SL fans, especially their student section, taking over Corbin's gym and feeding off SL's dominant performace in the first meeting.

 

Believe this or not, I see SL's athleticism and defensive game being too much for Corbin, much like it was in their first meeting.

I will have to be perfectly honest, I don't see it being much better than the last game. Playing at home may help in the aspect that the players will not want to get embarrased in their own gym, but I have not seen any sign of a homecourt advantage for Corbin this year. The fans have been pretty calm and the attendance has not been very good in my opinion, which takes away from the benefits of playing at home. Maybe Tuesday night will be better and the student section will be able to light a fire under some of the Redhounds who need to step up their game when they face better competition.

As I stated, Corbin has the talent to give them a chance. I still think that Crawford is the best player on the floor but doing all of the keys that I mentioned will be a tough task for the Hounds. For the Hounds to make a run at defending their region title, Crawford will have to have people other than Tate to step up on a consistant basis. With that said, I think Corbin can win but I have a feeling it will be along the lines of 72-55 in favor of the Cards.

I watched South Play Friday night.......went with some girl, anyway, I too think that Crawford will be the best player on the court next Tuesday. But the Hounds gotta tough hill to climb........Lets do it big DAWGS!

Those 4 are great players and teamwork definately outweighs one player. However, I do think that if you took Josh off of Corbin and added one of those 4, Corbin wouldn't be as successful.

Pineville beat the Redhounds(for the first time since 1973)at Corbin by a score of 61-58.

Each of those players are great individual players, who just so happen to understand what it means to be a team and therefore are able to succeed above and beyond each of their individual limitations. That is what basketball, and every team sport is about..... BUT that in no way should discredit each of their individual abilities as a player. To say that because they are a great team they dont have the best individual talent is crazy, because it takes individuals to make a team.... however alot of people seem to want to say this.

 

I'm willing to bet that if you took Crawford off of Corbin's team, and put Allen (state tourney MVP) or Proffitt (the best PG in the 13th region) on Corbin's team, Corbin would indeed be a much tougher team. If not because they are more talented then Crawford, then because they are experienced leaders who know what it takes to win.

 

How did Crawford perform individually the last time these 2 teams met, compared to how Proffitt, Allen, Smith, and Hammonds performed?

 

On a side note...... I get tired of hearing all this about teamwork being the only strong point that SL has..... it's as if people want to say that if it wasnt for SL's "unbelievable" teamwork and fundamentals, and their great coaching, then SL would just be a bunch of "non athletic" individuals who couldnt win a ball game! This is exactly the same type of reputation that the New England Patriots took on during their incredible run. I think when you have a great team the individual glory fades away...... and that makes alot of people think that their is no individual talent, when in reality there is more. However, I think the SL team uses this type of mentality to their advantage, and sorta feeds off this reputation, as unfounded as it is. :ylsuper:

I think that it is fairly obvious that South Laurel has some extremely talented players on their team. What makes them such a great team is the way they play as a team, their dedication to playing defense, good fundamentals, very good coaching to go along with the individual talent they possess.
