I think that it is fairly obvious that South Laurel has some extremely talented players on their team. What makes them such a great team is the way they play as a team, their dedication to playing defense, good fundamentals, very good coaching to go along with the individual talent they possess.

 

I totally agree..... just seems like alot of people want to deny SL the fact that they have some great, talented, athletic players..... and contribute their success soley to teamwork, fundamentals, defense, and coaching. Those 4 things are what make them championship caliber...... but that could be said for any great team, regardless of your athletic ability.

 

What bothers me is that alot of teams that SL beats contribute that loss to pure teamwork...... as if to say that we had better players and the better athletes, SL was just more of a team..... well #1 thats part of the game and #2 I think that really cuts SL's players short of the credit they are due. They are by no means the most athletic team in this state, but I'm willing to bet they are the most athletic team in EKY and one of the top 20 most athletic teams in the state.

From what I seen from the Hounds this season, SL can play "Name that Score." South by a boatload unless Corbin gets divine intervention or lots of homecooking.

Maybe..... maybe not.

 

Each of those players are great individual players, who just so happen to understand what it means to be a team and therefore are able to succeed above and beyond each of their individual limitations. That is what basketball, and every team sport is about..... BUT that in no way should discredit each of their individual abilities as a player. To say that because they are a great team they dont have the best individual talent is crazy, because it takes individuals to make a team.... however alot of people seem to want to say this.

 

I'm willing to bet that if you took Crawford off of Corbin's team, and put Allen (state tourney MVP) or Proffitt (the best PG in the 13th region) on Corbin's team, Corbin would indeed be a much tougher team. If not because they are more talented then Crawford, then because they are experienced leaders who know what it takes to win.

 

How did Crawford perform individually the last time these 2 teams met, compared to how Proffitt, Allen, Smith, and Hammonds performed?

 

On a side note...... I get tired of hearing all this about teamwork being the only strong point that SL has..... it's as if people want to say that if it wasnt for SL's "unbelievable" teamwork and fundamentals, and their great coaching, then SL would just be a bunch of "non athletic" individuals who couldnt win a ball game! This is exactly the same type of reputation that the New England Patriots took on during their incredible run. I think when you have a great team the individual glory fades away...... and that makes alot of people think that their is no individual talent, when in reality there is more. However, I think the SL team uses this type of mentality to their advantage, and sorta feeds off this reputation, as unfounded as it is. :ylsuper:

Those 4 players could play and start for any team in the state without question. The thing that makes SL such a great team is that they are talented, hard working, and play excellent team ball. There is no player on that team that would rather score 30 points and lose rather than score 2 and win. They epitomize team ball. I was just saying that I think Crawford may have more individual talent than those 4. IT was just me praising Crawford's talent rather than knocking the 4 players from South.

OHHH...... gotcha. I can agree with you here. However.... at this point I dont think I'd say Crawford is the most talented just yet, although I think he is the most athletic....... I think it'd go Proffitt, Allen, then Crawford.....although I do think Crawford has the most potential and raw athleticism of the 3, and if he is able to grow as a player, will become more talented then the the 4 players from SL. It's hard to compare a freshman starter for Corbin and a starting senior and junior for SL. Proffitt and Allen just have too much experience at this point.

When I watched South they shot lights out from 3 ball range.........Hard to contend with that........They do have many weapons with out a doubt! They fizzled against Madison Central, it can happen again. Wish the Cats didnt play around the same time!

Let me see South stayed in the game and had a chance to beat the number 2 team in the NATION on Sat. A team with OJ Mayo and others, hope I'm wrong but Josh Crawford (a really good player for any level of high school) but a GREAT freshman, will have their hands full Tuesday with South who problely still rember the last time they were at Corbin, should be a full house and rocking from both sides.
