I'd prefer they work for free. They work for the people right? Unfortunately that's not the way it works and the politicians have taken advantage of this privilege for decades upon decades. Not a lot we can do about it. Probably why their 1% raises that were revoked don't bother me so much.

Here is the problem I have with this. Pay increases should be in a budget. Congress has not passed a budget. Since with are pay increases done with Executive Orders? Anyone find an EO that was for pay raises in the past? Its way out of process.

That's my problem. If the raise is part of a budget approved by Congress and signed by the President, that's OK. The executive order to do this is reeks of despotism/autocracy. Wonder what he will dictate next?

The 'dysfunctional Congress' gives him political cover. I believe those pushing for a more central-control are keeping Congress dysfunctional. It is the Democrats who have done so by not even trying to pass a budget when they had the house and Senate. Now they will not even work with the House on the budget presented. They can stop whining like babies about the Tea Party. They have a job to do - and they have failed. The scary part is maybe that failure is serving a broader purpose.

Not this federal employee. I've been with IRS since 2001 and any percentage raises I've gotten have been smaller than how much my health care premiums have gone up and definitely haven't kept up with inflation much like the minimum wage.

How many people will be getting the raise and what would the total be, I'm sure we don't know how many federal employees there are so I guess it will end up being a lot.

 

I can tell you the number is around 2.5 million federal employees and my agency (IRS) under Department of Treasury is just under 100,000 and was around 120K before the mass buyouts they offered at the end of last year.
