Bengals and playoffs becoming a common thing?

Featured Replies

Based on people's standards then this year. The majority of the teams who will be in the playoffs this year then have barely any good wins. So even if people want to downgrade the Bengals on that, then they need to look at the wins of the other teams and see how they don't have really many good wins either based on people's standards. So the Bengals fit pretty closely with the other teams with their resume. The main difference is their name is the Bengals, and people can get past that and the reason why people haven't not down played most of the other teams schedules.

Not to mention the Giants the very next game after the Bengals beat them, the Giants came out and destroyed the Packers. So the Giants were not on their bad stretch yet.

I think you are missing the point that I and others are making about the Bengals. I don't think there iis anyone upset the bengals made the playoffs. Shoot, I'm estactic they made the playoffs. All I've been saying is that they aren't as great as yoou claim them to be. Trust me I would want nothing mroe than to see them win a SSuper Bowl beefore I die. The truth of the matter is that they just aren't there yet, nnot even close. You have made it seem as if they have done something incredible, II am just trying to calm your excitement with the facts that they need to be able to bbeat great teams before I and others will claim them the best ever.

Getting to the playoffs doesn't mean squat to me if they can't win in the playoffs. Thaat is my point.

I never said I didn't believe you, I said a lot of folks claim to have been at the Freezer Bowl.

I don't know who initiates trades, but it was a good one.

The 4th & 22 call was tongue in cheek. He did catch the ball, but his foot was OOB.

As for wins over the Giants and then SD & Washington on the road... Whatever the record these are games the Bengals would have lost in the past.

I know plenty about football and I too don't care if you believe it blah, blah...I would gladly put my knowledge of any game involving a ball up against yours. I only inferred you were a Bengals fan b/c your post seemed like sour grapes. Geez, I put a smiley face behind it.

Not sure why you get so bent out of shape? Take it easy & enjoy the Bengals winning season for the 4th time in a decade.

You couldn't be more wrong. I can't stand the steelers, have been one of the biggest Bengals fans you will ever know. So much so that I was the original administrator of the Bengals Message Board on the Bengals web site.

Also I was at the freezer bowl and could actually care less if you believe it or not because you matter nothing to me and could care less. I sat in section 110 row 10 seat 4 where our season tickets were and actually have in my basement a picture of me and my dad that was in the newspaper from the game.

now about your points.

#5 Marvin Lewis if coached for any other team would of been fired long ago. There was and is no other coach in the entire league that has coached for a decade and only has 4 winning seasons and 0 playoff wins.

#6 first off Mike Brown has been among the least spending owners n the NFL. When he does spend money he wastes it on the wrong players. Just look at the players he has franchised tagged over the past 6 years and see who is still here and who was worth the money in the first place. Next year Mike Brown is forced to spend money due to the new collective barganing agreement....this year and last year he spent the least out of the majority of teams so quit claiming he spends the money when the facts state otherwise.

#7...The Palmer trade was a no brainer, it wasn't Mike who initiated the trade, it was the Raiders so don't give credit for doing what anyone would of done if offered.

#8. The giants aren't even in the playoffs, again, another losing record team we beat.

#9 San Diego a horrible team....Washington we beat when they had a rookie QB in only his 2nd game and also allowed them to score over 30 points.

#10 another bad team with a losing record.

#11 one of the dumbest calls of the year, how you can defend a 4th and 22 call when we were leading at the time is just plain stupid.

Do me a favor and don't try and tell me who and what I am a fan of, you don't know me and by your posts you know very little about football.

Please start posting true statements. You keep saying I said they were great, that is not true. Only called them a good team. You say you did your research, when apparently you didn't. You posted the Giants are 6 and 10 I showed you that they are 8 and 7. Then you go ahead and respond to Greg Page saying that the Giants are a losing team. Another false statement and a lie. I do however do my research on things like this, please do the same if you want to keep this going. You say your trying to calm people's excitement by stating facts, but what your doing is not stating facts. Then even the reasons you listed for why you can't get excited about this team, I showed you how you can say the same thing about most of the teams. Even the Giants you lose by a combined 50 points to that bad Giants team you say and Seattle this year. Your facts for not getting excited are not facts, when you can find things about every single team on what they have not done well.

I really don't get the point of you even trying to calm the excitement. Its not like its a bad thing for FANS OF A TEAM to get EXCITED when THEIR TEAM is in the PLAYOFFS. Which means they do have a CHANCE! There was no reason to think the Giants would have won their two Super Bowls when it started. No reason to think the Steelers would have in 2005. No reason to think the Arizona Cardinals would have made the Super Bowl a few years back. It just goes to show that if a team gets in, then they deserve and anything is possible. That is plenty of reason to get excited because of there being a chance no matter how small it is.

Didn't the Giants just lose their last 2 games by a combined score of 70 something to 14? Thought so. Don't make them out to be anything other than what they are, a very average team at best.

Decided I would save people from another long post. Merry Christmas!

The Giants are bi-polar. At times they're one of the best teams in the league. Other times they look like the worst team in the league. Vs. Cincy, Atlanta and Baltimore, they looked like the worst team in the league.

Against all playoff teams they have looked very bad. Just like against some playoff teams they have looked like the best in the NFL. Thats why I think it is a good win, because it still took good teams to beat them.

The Eagles beat them...

Any win is a good win, don't get me wrong.

The Bengals have had a better year than last year IMO and they are better than I thought they would be. However if Washington misses the playoffs and it is very possible, and if Baltimore wins Sunday the Gals will still have zero wins against teams that made the playoffs that season with plenty of chances to do so. What FC left off of his little list up there were Denver and Baltimore's wins against the Gals. So he wants credit for the Gals being good for making the playoffs, but doesn't want to credit the teams that beat them with a good win.

No I was being perfectly fair with the criteria of what Hellbird was considering a good team. As he said he thought the Bengals were an average at best team. Which is why I didn't count the Bengals as good wins for those teams. Now I will say that I don't agree with the criteria he seems to have as what a good win is, so the actual list of good wins would be different. However I was just basing it on what he had shown to what he thought a good win was. Which based off that criteria, not many teams have good wins though. I would definitely consider it a good win for teams who beat the Bengals, however he wouldn't apparently since they are just an average team to him.

Which is my point with this whole thing. People want to shoot down who the Bengals played, but seem to fail to notice most of the teams in the playoffs also beat very similar teams. So that is a very poor argument to use by him.

Or if the Bengals and Redskins win this Sunday which is also very possible then they would have won 2 out of their 4 games against playoff teams. Does that all of a sudden really make that big of a difference to people on how they think they will do in the playoffs? I mean that would be two wins against division champions. I don't think it should make a difference really, because if a team is in the playoffs they deserve it plain and simple. Also if they are in the playoffs then they have a chance and that is all that matters, what happened in the regular season means nothing now.

Dont get me wrong. We are all very happy the Bengals are in the playoffs. What I think you have misunderstood is a lot of us are not ready to claim they are a great team which some of your previous posts had tried to claim or at least seemed like you were claiming.

See, there are 12 teams in a 32 team league that make the playoffs, past history has proved over and over again that just because you make the playoffs does not equate to being a very good team. Look at the Seahawks who made the playoffs with a losing record just a couple years ago I think, it was something like a 7-9 record, i could be wrong.

But it shows just like the previous 2 playoff appreacnes the Bengals made they were far from one of the best teams and deserving teams in the playoffs. They got their butts handed to them both times in the 1st round and they haven't shown anything this season that will make a lot of us believe that the same thing wont happen again.

So yes we are all glad they made the playoffs, but they haven't shown with thier lack of offense this year that they are of a caliber to run deep in the playoffs.

That is all we are saying. Beat the good-great teams in the league on a semi consistent basis and then we will believe they can actually win in the postseason. Until then try and muffle the "Marvin is a great coach" and "The Bengals are elite" type of talk.

You want them to prove us wrong on how good or baad people feel about them, well now is there chance. Go out and win a couple playoff games, untiil that happens then it's a failed season. People mmay claim it was a succesful season becvause they made it to the playoffs. I disagree. Everyteam goes out at the beginning of the season wanting 1 thing and that is to play in the Super Bowl, anything less is a dissapointment.

I also get so tired of hearing that they "Are a young team" blah blah blah nonsense. They have been a yooung team for over 20 years and what has that gott them? Zilch. Enough of the excuses, it's time for results. The Bengals don't make it to the AFCGG aat least then it was a failure off a season.

See you make it really hard to even consider anything you say because of the made up things you say in your post. Never once have I said they were a great team, or even hinted that they are a great team. So once again nice try on that. Never once have I said Marvin Lewis a great coach or even tried to say he was. I did say he is not the worst coach in the league like you said. Shoot go back to the Miami game thread and I was all over him for his decision in that game. So once again nice try in your made up things in your argument. Please if your going to respond back to me, at least respond back to what I actually say and not what you hope I say so you have something to say back to.

By the way you listed one team basically in the Seahawks who you may have been right probably didn't deserve to be there. Yet guess what they ended up in the playoffs and anything can happen after that and they showed that by then going out and winning a playoff game that year. Just goes to show anything can happen once your in it, so no reason not to be excited about it. You then talk about the last two Bengals playoff teams were not deserving? The Bengals won the division in 2009 by sweeping the division, but they were not deserving? Ok once again killing your creditibility with false statements. Then even in that playoff game they did not get embarrassed at all, they simply lost that is all. Now last year they didn't do to well, so that is one true statement you finally have had.

You do realize that if the Bengals win this Sunday and the Redskins win, then that means the Bengals won half of their games against playoff teams this year. However I am sure that would not matter to you, and you would try to make up some more false things to say as you have so far. I mean at least SSC brings some true statements that can at least back up his opinions. You however make up things on what people say. So please at least start responding back to things said, and not what you want to believe just like you wanted to believe the Giants have a losing record.

I will say this Hellbird I do agree with you that if the Bengals don't win the Super Bowl it is a disappointment. However I am naturally a positive person, and even though I am down I still will try to think of some positives. Just like when the Bengals lost to Dallas, that sucked!!! That bothered me the rest of the day and even the next day. All the people were saying well now they have no chance blah, blah, blah. However even though I was disappointed I was still looking at ok what possible scenarios can get them in. Just like if the get knocked out in the playoffs it will suck, but I will then look at ok what good things they have to build off of. Then what all things they need to address now to get better. Even though you may choose not to be opptimistic anymore don't try to tell other people they shouldn't be.

How did you feel about people when they said Cooper possibly shouldn't be in the playoffs since they didn't finish in the top 2 in the district? That if they couldn't finish in the top 2, then they wouldn't have deserved to be in the playoffs anyways if only 2 teams made it. I know from your post that you completely disagreed with that. However more teams than 2 did get to make it, and so Cooper was given that chance and they showed what you can do when given a chance. Once in the playoffs anything is possible, and there is no reason not to be excited about that. Just like there is no reason for people to try to tell you not to excited about it.

Or if the Bengals and Redskins win this Sunday which is also very possible then they would have won 2 out of their 4 games against playoff teams. I agree with you about half way. There isn't a huge difference. Problem is that would be two years in a row they couldn't beat one team that made the playoffs with a whole bunch of chances. That is a problem even if you don't want it to be.
