2012 Class of the Commonwealth Football Team: Lexington Herald-Leader

2012 Class of the Commonwealth boasts Central Kentucky flavor | High School Sports | Kentucky.com

By Mike Fields

The Herald-Leader's 21st Class of the Commonwealth, our salute to 22 of the top high school football seniors in the state, has a green hue to it. Trinity Shamrock green.

Five of the honorees played for Trinity. They were standouts for last year's nationally ranked No. 1 team, and this season's three-peat state champions.

James Quick, a hotly recruited wide receiver, is the highest profile Trinity star. But quarterback Travis Wright, running back Dalyn Dawkins and defenders Jason Hatcher and Ryan White are all Division I prospects, too.

Central Kentucky is well represented in this Class of the Commonwealth.

Lexington Catholic quarterback Kyle Bolin and Tates Creek defensive back Dennis Oxendine made the team.

Franklin County receiver Ryan Timmons and quarterback Logan Woodside also made the honors list, along with Frankfort receiver Aaron Jackson and Bourbon County running back Kentayvus Hopkins.

Players were chosen for the Class of the Commonwealth based primarily on their individual and team accomplishments, and in some cases college potential.

Congrats to all these young men. Hard work pays off. A big shout out to Franklin Co Flyer teammates WR/RB Ryan Timmons and QB/LB Logan Woodside. Both of them are classy young men. Go Flyers!

Great choices. Good luck to all these young men.

Is this a State wide award or area award? JD

Couldn't be a more false statement.

IF that is what primarily the players were chosen for then they lied. It's nothing moree than a popularity contest. Again another state wide ""Best of" team is selected purely off of popularity. IF the team was chosen on individual and team accoomplishments, then why was one of the best D-Linemen left off the list, a player whose team made it all the way to the state championship game? This player has beeen left off a lot of these lists although he was one of the best in the state and becaause of his outstanding play was a main reason his team made it to the championship game.

Taylor Centers was once again ignored purely because of the school he played for which has been overlooked all season.

Couldn't be a more false statement.

IMO this was best list of them all, All these players had nice stats & Most of them are D1 one players but like all list there still will be some deserving people left off. This list & the AP, was much better than the CJ's list. The CJ's was so unexplainable on so many players.

I don't know much about Taylor Centers so I'll look up him to see what type of players he is.

That is true, Cj's list was pretty sad.

Taylor Centers was played in the Bluegrass game, he played on a team that had one of the best defenses in the state, only giving up an avg of 11 points. He was always double teamed in every game and in the State Semi Finals played the biggest role in the team winning and going to the state semi's when he was moved from the D-Line which he played the entire season to middle linebacker at halftime and shut down a great Harland Co. ground game scoreless after their opening drive TD.

A great player who never complained. He was a great RB gorwing up and played TE also his first couple years in HS but when the team needed linemen he was taken out of the "Glory" positions such as RB and TE and played OL and DL for the first time in his life last year and led the team's defense the entire year. Without Taylor Centers there would be no State Runner up this year is a pretty good bet.

C'mon HB, give it a rest. Cooper was not overlooked all season. Everyone knows that they had a pretty good team and they got lots of pub. That card is getting old. Been played one to many times. Centers is a good player, but as we have all seen in these post season "fantasy team" recognitions, lots of really good players have been ignored or forgotten. It's definitely not because his team got "overlooked". That just didn't happen.

Who is Cooper?

Who is Cooper?

Now THAT is funny!
