Coach Beatty

Coverdale was influenced by the run and shoot before coming to T. When he coached college and HS ball with Robinson they used some shoot stuff on the backside. Pro style spread is a great way to describe what they do.

I believe he has a couple of years left to reach some type of threshhold as far as retirement benefits are concerned. I can't see him leaving now because of this. I also agree with xgozout about the recruiting aspect of a college position. I don't think he would like schmoozing some recruit and his family. My impression is that he is a straightforward, straight-talking guy who tells it like it is---like it or not. Whether this translates into being a good recruiter, I would think not. Plus, IMO I don't know if he would like not being the boss of the football team.

You're absolutely correct re Coverdale's RnS influences. Thanks for setting me straight!

This guy went from High School to a major college a few have heard of.

Gerard Anthony "Gerry" Faust (born May 21, 1935) is a former American football player and coach. He served as the head football coach at the University of Notre Dame from 1981 to 1985 and at the University of Akron from 1986 to 1994, compiling a career college football record of 73–79–4. From 1962 to 1980, Faust was the head football coach at Moeller High School in Cincinnati, Ohio, where he tallied a mark of 178–23–2 and won four High School Football National Championships.

and if you EVER get a chance to hear him speak......DO IT!!!!

Tony Franklin went 1-9 in his last year as a HS football coach in KY before he went to UK with Mumme as RB's coach, and two years later he was calling the offense. The rest is history.

Point? Plenty of good high school coaches can, have and will continue to coach in college.

Yet even he, one of the most successful high school coaches in history, had only a handful of winning seasons at ND and Akron.
