December 13, 201213 yr Middle school teacher, coach arrested | SpencerMagnet.com Spencer Co. middle teacher/coach resigns after arrest on burglary, imprisonment charges in alleged domestic altercation with another district employee Spencer Magnet, Taylorsville, Dec. 12, 2012 Middle school teacher, coach arrested By Shannon Brock A Spencer County Middle School teacher and coach of the Grizzlies football team was arrested Friday after he allegedly broke into his ex-girlfriend’s home and held her there against her will. Todd Andrew Bonds, 36, of the 200 block of East Main Street in Taylorsville, faces charges of first-degree burglary and unlawful imprisonment stemming from an incident Thursday night. According to an arrest warrant on file in the Spencer County Circuit Clerk’s office, Bonds arrived at the home of his ex-girlfriend and she refused to let him inside. Bonds’ ex-girlfriend is a Spencer County resident and is also an employee of Spencer County Schools. Her name is being withheld as a matter of Spencer Magnet policy regarding domestic altercations. After about 45 minutes of the woman denying Bonds entrance into her home, he broke in through a window, according to the arrest warrant. The woman alleges that Bonds pinned her in a corner, grabbed her arm and would not let her call the police, the arrest warrant says. After about half an hour, the woman was able to convince Bonds to leave, the warrant says. However, Bonds returned to the residence at 6 a.m. Friday, where he again was not allowed inside. After continuous phone calls to the woman, Bonds eventually left, the warrant says. Later Friday, the woman said Bonds was involved in an altercation with a man he saw her talking to at Country Mart, the warrant says. The woman said that “the defendant asked her to lie to the police and tell them that the man had hit him,” the warrant says. A. Word is this guy was also let go at Walton Verona as a teacher and coach.
December 13, 201213 yr I believe he is suing the Walton school district. I am going to assume this will weaken his case..........
December 13, 201213 yr OK, I am an educated person but having trouble with the fact that he was hired by Spencer Co. after being let go at Walton. Was he fired for a similar incident or just let go? If he has a history of this type of behavior, I can't believe that Spencer would have hired him to teach and coach their kids and endanger employees as well. Just asking.........
December 13, 201213 yr Author OK, I am an educated person but having trouble with the fact that he was hired by Spencer Co. after being let go at Walton. Maybe they didn't know why he left Walton. In the private sector a company wouldn't know. Is that true in education?
December 13, 201213 yr Maybe they didn't know why he left Walton. In the private sector a company wouldn't know. Is that true in education? Well, I am a doctor but I was under the impression that teachers had to go through a background check. IF, he had a prior "incident" then he shouldn't have been hired anyway. That's why I was asking why he was let go at Walton.
December 13, 201213 yr Hes contract was not renewed at Walton, non tenure teachers have year to year contracts.
December 13, 201213 yr After about 45 minutes of the woman denying Bonds entrance into her home, Why in God's name did she not call the police when this was going on in the first place?
December 13, 201213 yr Author Hes contract was not renewed at Walton, non tenure teachers have year to year contracts. Why is he suing WV?
December 13, 201213 yr Why is he suing WV? That was going to be my question. Non-tenured, year to year contracts do not need cause to let you go.
December 13, 201213 yr Middle and High School teachers and coaches have to go through background checks and extensive training on subjects from rules, techniques to first aide. If the subject of this thread had a criminal record, he would not have been hired. That being said, do non-school affiliated leagues like NKYFL and BCPWFL do background checks and require annual certification from their coaches?
