It’s hard to imagine a world without video games. For some, they’re a simple diversion — a way to pass time. For others, they’re a portal to strange and wonderful alternate universes. For everyone, whether you’re into video games or not, they’re an integrally important part of our culture.

From Adventure to Zork, here are our picks for the All-TIME 100 greatest video games.

How many have you played?

I think I've played 38 of the games listed.

Some of my favorites and I'm glad they were included: Oregon Trail, Paper Boy, Tecmo Bowl, NBA Jam, and Metal Gear Solid

How could they leave off Mario Kart? Unless it got looped in with the other Mario games.

Games on this list that I loved:

Oregon Trail (Clizzy has Dysentery )

Space Invaders

Pac-Man (still play this every once in a while)

Frogger

Galaga (best arcade game ever)

Paperboy (used to love breaking windows with those newspapers )

Super Mario Brothers

Tetris

Contra (see my first post )

Mike Tyson's Punchout (getting a rubdown in between rounds )

Tecmo Bowl (to this day, Marcus Allen & Bo Jackson remain the greatest backfield in the history of video games)

NBA Jam

Games on the list I don't care for (that I have played):

Asteroids

Donkey Kong

Zelda

Sonic the Hedgehog

Street Fighter

Games not on the list that I love:

Double Dragon (got it for Christmas when I was a kid; played it all day long until I beat it at about 2 in the morning)

Baseball Stars (Lovely Ladies...enough said )

* There was a college football game we played when I was in college. Keith Jackson was the announcer and he always said his famous, "Whoa Nellie!" Loved that game.

After we'd party hop for a few hours on the weekends we used to find our way back to my buddy's house where we'd put in that code and play Contra until we beat it. Ah the good ole days.

My question would be is Clizzy more of a ford the river or pay for a ferry type guy?

Clizzy is a ferry.

See what I did there?

It's amazing how far video games have come. But I'll always have a soft spot in my heart for those old games.

When I was going through the list of games, I found that I played more from the 70's and 80's than I did the rest of the years.

Looking for help, I played a game in tilt at Florence mall in the 80's and put in more quarters than I care to remember. 4 player game advance through stages you could do damage if you had the jet pack or bouncy shoes. If a friend died you stole the jet pack! It was a blast anybody have a name???

^ I know exactly what you're talking about, but can't come up with a name.

I understand if maybe they only wanted one title from any given series, but Super Mario Brothers 3 seems like a pretty conspicuous omission.
