Chris Christie won New jersey as a Republican. Marco Rubio is an Hispanic from Florida. Christie is tough and can get things done and has been working with a Democratic State Legislature. Rubio is extremely bright and energetic. Personally, I see no need for a primary.

Good combo there. Christie would be 54 and Rubio 45. If it went well Rubio would be young enough to run for the top Job in 2024.

Rand Paul would be the worst thing for this country, he is a divider. Republicans need a strategy that brings latino's in to the fold. Demographics are changing and being the party of old white people isn't going to cut it anymore. Rand talks about pointless stuff just to get attention and divide, i.e. when he took the floor to grip about money going to Libya, not even Republicans agreed with him on cutting Libya's funding. Last night a prominent Paul supporter on my facebook page put something on her post a picture of rand paul followed by a status "something good will come of this tragedy" to which another Paul supporter responded "Civil War? ;)". Paul would lose miserably, but even worse I dread to think what would happen to this country if he won.

 

 

Yes. Let us put another candidate with the exact same stances as Romney and watch how they get annihilated by Hillary. You're a former Gingrich supporter so it isn't surprising.

 

Can you please elaborate where Rand talks about pointless 'stuff?' I thought we wanted compromise. He is the only candidate listed that talks about cutting what the Republicans hold dear most: the military.

 

Since the rest of the GOP sides against Rand in regards to Libya....well, he must be wrong:rolleyes: After all, they have been right on foreign policy matters for the last decade, right? Puh-lease. Get a grip of reality.

By the way....Ron Paul was the only candidate to have any sort of diversity in his audience. It stems from his ideas. One candidate listed actually has the same philosophy. So regarding the GOP's 'white problem.' They may want to take a page out of the Paul book.

Ron Paul to solve the "white problem"? That's some good stuff there. Once he got in a national primary those newsletters would hit and there'd be zero chance of him solving the "white problem...

I am willing to consider Rand Paul, and he has 4 years to convince me. But he has a tall mountain to climb. The biggest are what I consider extreme views. The second is the possibility of a candidate with views that are more palatable.

I didn't say Ron Paul would solve the white problem. I said his ideas will perpetuate people of every age and race to join the GOP and it 'stems from his ideas.' He was the only candidate who consistently had this type of diversity among the GOP candidates at their events. I went on to say there is one candidate listed that shares that same philosophy.

 

When I said 'take a page,' it was in reference to the ideology bit. Thought that was pretty black and white.

 

I feel like Rand carries on those ideas. If we want more latinos and blacks in the party, make it come from the message -- not the messenger.

That comment was in reference to how people automatically assume that, because Marco Rubio is hispanic, he will garner their vote. Pretty sure majority on BGP feel that voters go on substance and not vote someone in just because they share the same ethnicity ( It does help, however.)

 

If you are insinuating he would be a bad messenger, I would like to hear the reasoning.

To the latter half of your statement, you have nothing to back that up. You assume that your candidates lost because they were moderate. The republicans put up moderates, then expected them to push to the more conservative side. Moderate and independent voters have been key in the last elections and they weren't sold on the move to the more conservative side of the table. Additionally, when has the more personable candidate not won the election, R or D?

 

I hope that the R's don't put up Rand Paul as their candidate. I'd like to have more than one candidate to choose from.

 

I agree that assuming that hispanics will vote for Rubio just based on ethnicity is flawed. For one, there needs to be a real attempt at looking into immigration reform. If your candidate is going to go against the Dream Act without offering up a viable option, he or she isn't going to win this hispanic vote. It's not just because I am hispanic. As mixed up as it might seem, I'm tired of hearing all of the anti-abortion mantra and then the same people not caring about children that, due to no fault of their own, are left without a country. If we care about life, we should care about the plight of these children. It rings hollow otherwise.

Quite simply, Rand Paul is one of the most extreme Republicans.
