Do You Believe That God.....

Featured Replies

He created our ability to procreate, and has the ability to know when we will choose to do it through our own free will.

Isn't this contradictory? Is it free will if the decision is known before the person makes that choice?

I think this story shows how silly the campaign process (and us the citizenry) is that a candidate has to immediately disavow something that most voters think is true.

Plus, it's one more example of why I say those of you that say abortion is wrong because God created a life that was terminated YET there should be an exemption due to rape are being inconsistent.

I don't think so. I know PP92 is going to vote for Barack Obama, but my foreknowledge doesn't mean I force it to happen. He still has to go to the polling place & cast his ballot.

Agreed.

 Yea, but what you're saying is probabilistic. It's highly likely, but he might get a flat tire on the way and get stranded, might decide to just sit at home out of protest, might decide to get wild and vote for Johnson, etc. If God knows it will happen then it is a certainty, right?

Not exactly, no. Knowing what will come is different from deeming it to take place.

Yea, but if it is known to be a certainty beforehand then how could any other decision happen?

Not exactly...I look at it more along the lines of DVRing something in advance.

What do you mean? If you DVR a game you still wouldn't know the outcome until the game ended, right?

Really? Really? I can't change a flat now? My celly has no reception? Where am I? The whites-only stretch of the AA Highway?

Geez, Habib....I'd protest before I got stranded with a flat tire. A mechanic who can't change a flat.....I might be a mechanic by name but I can change a flat.

In 4 minutes. Ask Randy.

 Wow, I laughed pretty hard at that.

Correct...but it's not exactly the same. It's God, haha.

It's one of the mysteries of faith. How can God be three divine persons in one? Because He's God.

It is a certainty, but one that is based on free will. There is a C.S. Lewis quote that better explains this. Unfortunately I can't seem to track it down just yet.

Until then, I shall retreat to the kitchen sink for a cold glass of milk & meditation on this subject. God knows this as a certainty, but not because He is causing it to happen. Rather, he knows that in my free will, this is what I inevitably choose.

If I wasn't on my phone I would roll out the old, but popular "Rolling In The Snow Laughing" picture from the Denzel Sausageton days.

Excellent work my friend.

But if God knows you're going to the kitchen then how could you possibly do anything else? The decision is made.
