Mayfield 27 Russelville 7

Sounded on the radio like Russelville was pretty solid, but it also sounded like the cardinals were pretty slopy too!

I will agree with that statement but Mayfield has had a bye week and played the two Fultons which is like saying that Mayfield has not played a game in nearly a month.

Rville opened up getting 3 first downs before fumbling the ball away. The only other significant yards given up by the Cards defense was a 60 yard pass by Rville that was one of those highlight reel plays. Perfect pass just inches beyond the defenders outstretched arms into the recievers hands who caught it running in stride for a TD that gave Rville a 7-3 lead. The CArds answered to take a 10-7 lead then with under 30 seconds before the half the Cards partially block a punt and get the ball at the Rville 5 yard line and score with 20 seconds to go in the half. The Cards take the opening drive of the second half in for a score to go up 24-7 and tack on a field goal a little later for your final of 27-7. The defense was great after the first series other than the perdectly thrown TD pass. The offense, despite well over 400 yards of offense just shot itself in the foot all night. 4 turnovers and 2 other drives deep in Rville territory killed by penalities. The most penalities all year easily. The offensive line was in a stellmate early on but midway through the second quarter the line took control despite a determined Rville effort. QB Guhy had a shakey start with his accuracy but settled down as the game went on. The Cards gave Rville numerous short fields and had the defense not gone into shutdown mode this game could have been even closer. Rville was held to -8 yards in the second half. The bye and playing to vastly inferior teams in Fulton City and Fulton County along with a stout preformance by Rville made for a much tighter game than I expected. Mf seemed off on its timing, just plain looked rusty, for a good portion of the game offensively though once Rville saw they could play with the Cards they really stepped it up. Rville is very quick and will be a tough out, I will be suprised if they they do not win out and get a rematch with the Cards in the playoffs which would be nice and get the Cards a extra home playoff game so go Panthers til we meet again. Man they are well coached. With what they return next year they will challenge the Cards for the district
