October 19, 201213 yr I thought it was a good decision. Frank Gore with a solid game! Maybe it was, but it really makes you wonder about Harbaugh though.
October 19, 201213 yr Maybe it was, but it really makes you wonder about Harbaugh though. How so? Makes you wonder what? He declined the safety on purpose to affect the betting line? He's gaurenteed the ball, opposition has 0 timeouts left, all they have to do is kneel twice and win. Versus having the ball punted to them. Are they likely to turn that over, probably not, but I'd much rather just have the ball in my hands than have to worry about anything else. Wireman posed on twitter to me, what if they botch a snap and fumble. Possible, but I'd rather take my chances with that than have the ball punted to me and then still have to take snaps. By decling the safety, it was one less play his team had to make safely in my opinion. For people to think it was anything else is kind of ridiculous to me.

I'm sorry, but when the line is what it was, and he makes that decision that late in a game that is over, it has to make you wonder. Wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if good ole Harbaugh had some cheddar on the game.

It was a smart decision and anyone who plays sports and wants to have the best mental edge that they possibly can would appreciate this move by Harbaugh. Anyone looking for some conspiracy plot (and I love those) is very mistaken in my opinion. By declining the safety, it was one last chance for his team to make a mistake.
October 19, 201213 yr The safety would have ended the game. It would have put them up 9 with the ball. Weird call IMO.
October 19, 201213 yr Another crappy Thursday night game. Doesn't matter people will watch because of fantasy football and gambling.

More things have to go wrong for them to lose if they take the safety. It was a dumb call. Option #1 - They take the safety, SF has to fumble, Seattle has to score, Seattle then has to recover an onside kick, then move the ball down the field far enough to kick a FG. They have to do all this in less than a minute with zero timeouts. Option #2 - They do it the way Harbaugh did it, all that has to happen is SF fumbles and Seattle then has the ball in SF territory needing only a TD to force OT. Option #2 seems MUCH more likely to occur.
October 19, 201213 yr It's estimated it was about a $75M swing for Vegas. So Seattle has been involved in controversial endings that have made Vegas nearly $350M and we're not even halfway through the season....
October 19, 201213 yr Harbaugh is clearly playing against San Francisco D/ST in fantasy football this week.
October 19, 201213 yr I think what's more shocking than the safety decision however, was the 49ers play-calling in the first half.
October 19, 201213 yr I bet you that Alex Smith had money on the game too. No way he throws that horrible interception in the redzone when they could have just kicked a FG if he didn't.
