The Professor Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 I listened to this one on the Stanton radio. It was a great game . Lee broke out to a 12-2 first half lead, but Powell made a game after that, leading by 13 at one time. But the Bobcats staged a comeback in the last quarter to tie it and send it into OT. Lee won a thriller in this one. Enjoyable game to listen to :thumb:
BadCat Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 Lee came out cold in second half and was down by 13 late 3rd and 4th quarter, came back to tie and win in OT.
BadCat Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 Professor we must have posted at same time. If you think it was fun to listen to you should've been there to watch! Great hard fought game between big rivals.

BadCat Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 If Powell still had Stamper and Crowe, they would be one of very top teams in region.
ARC Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 Powell hit 8 threes, Lee hit 3. Powell did a good job on defending the post when they made their run. Lee showed guts to pack it in and switched up their defense to get into overtime. In the OT all that Powell could do to stop Rich was foul. Game over. Caleb Fetters had a tremendous game at both ends of the floor, slicing through the Powell defenders for easy baskets several key times.
RonnieThePopular Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 Good win for Lee County here. They stay undefeated in district play I believe.
LeeCoBobcatFan Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 I found this game to be a very excelently officiated game. (other than that T at the start of the second half-it was illegal) Lee got away from the inside game in the second half and Powell did a nice job of denying the post during that time. Physical game. But Lee did a nice job of fighting back and Coach Wright did a good job keeping the kids focused and calm. Good game Lee.
bigcat44 Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 I thought Powell played pretty good tonight. One of their players, Danny Dennis, was absolutely on fire in the 3rd quater. I don't know how much he finished with but he hit a ton of shots it seemed like

The radio announcers said that new players didn't check in at the scorer's table when the 2nd half started. I don't know if that's what happened or not, but if it did then the same players that finished the 2nd quarter have to start the 3rd quarter, unless otherwise noted before the second half starts. Most coaches simply have an assistant tell the scorer who the starting five are before the half starts. That takes care of any technicalities.
bball king Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 Powell started the second half with a goal and then the powell coach told the referee about the illegal subs and then a technical was assesed. The correct call should have been made before the half started. Since Powell had scored and play had resumed you can not back up and give Powell the basket and two technical shots and the ball. That is what occured. The basket should have been waved off and the clock set back to eight minutes and then the technical assesed not after Powell had started the half and scored. IMO
bigcat44 Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 Yea..there should have not been a basket but it is all water under the bridge now

An illegal player becomes legal the moment the ball is put in play. If they are not noticed before the ball is in play, they automaticaly become legal and there is no penalty that can be assessed. It is not a correctable error and therefore should have not been penalized. The referees were wrong in this ruling, especially since Powell had scored and then got the free shots and the ball back. Wrong call was made, but Lee still won, so we won't complain too much.
