2012 Bracken County Holiday Classic

Pool A:

Bracken County

Anderson County

Deming

Beechwood

Pool B:

Boone County

Augusta

West Carter

Iroquois

This seems to be quite a mixed-bag field. The upper pool seems competitive enough with Anderson County (21-9) seeming to lay over the pool, having defeated Bracken, Nicholas, and Deming quite handily last year.

Boone County sticks out in here like a sore thumb. Seems odd that the defending 9th Region Champs would opt for this tournament. Iroquois is a 5-A Football school from Louisville who toils in a brutal hoops district that includes Butler, Western, DeSales, and Doss. Their schedule is filled with the likes of Ballard, PRP, and Jeffersontown. For a preview of the Iroquois team, they will play Brossart in the John Turner Classic at Newport High School on Saturday, December 1st.

If the folks at Bracken County were looking to beef up their tournament and infuse some new blood into what used to be a locals event, they have certainly accomplished that mission, but it doesn't seem to bode well for the locals.

Didn't know much about Iroquois, but I couldn't agree more on Boone. Personally, as a Polar Bears fan, I like the addition of these teams.

If you like good basketball, adding these teams is great for the fans. Watching some good teams play each other is what it is all about in my opinion, not having a weak tournament that the home team wins every year.

I think it is best that all teams are competitive. Nothing worse than blowouts.

I am impressed with the teams in the Tourney. Not sure if it would be worth the drive down but hats off to the Polar Bears for creating some excitement!

Big dropoff at Boone Co this year IMO. They will still have some nice athletes but unproven in Varsity action.

I always would have liked this tournament to be 10th region vs. 16th region. Say have Bracken,Augusta,Harrison County and Pendleton County representing the local 10th. Lewis County,Fleming County and maybe West Carter and Bath County or Raceland/Russell out of the 16th. Keep the round robin. I just think familiar names would fill the gym more, make things interesting, etc. I just don't see a whole lot traveling with Beechwood ,Iroquois, etc.

Beechwood and Boone may bring some b/c they're close, but I'd agree with Iroquois.

Beechwood and Boone are much closer than Bath, Raceland, Russel. Just as close as Lewis, Fleming.

I think people would pay the $6.00 to see a rivalry of some sort with schools they recognize, plus Harrison and Fleming should be strong and people will be curious to see them and Coach Starns
