I do not think they need to do away with football, if you are going to fix a football program you can not start at the High school you have to start at the bottom and put in a system that will help you develop players at a young age. I do not know what kind of little league football program they have in McCreary County but that is where you have to start fixing the problem. I know at Williamsburg they redone there entire little league program a while back. They have switched to 8 man football and put an emphasis on the skills that they will use in High School for example everything is ran out of shotgun and you have to have certain formations and us the same terminology as the high School team. They have put in several rules such as every child has to play a certain amount of time in each game, on defense you have to play head up on the Defensive line and the linebackers have to be at least 3 yards of the line of scrimmage when the ball is snapped. The emphasis is not on winning but on learning the correct fundamentals and the terminology so they will be ready to play at the next level. They currently have about 170 kids playing little league football and that is pretty good for any program. Since this program has been in place they have had winning seasons every year in middle school (including 1 State Championship) and have a really good high school program. You just have to get everyone involved and on board, especially the high school Coach. I Know that Coach Herron is at every Little League that is played watching and even helping the little league coaches. I think that McCreary County Football can be fixed it will just take a lot of hard work by everyone involved.

While I agree with the thought process posted, and yes a good feeder system helps tremendously, You do not need it to have an effective HS team. Many schools have kids who never played a down of football until high school and do very well.

I never said end the program, if they are having struggles that are purely just competition based then they can ask to be an independent, not play in the playoffs but have the ability to then schedule games they feel can be competitive for their program. Just like what Pendleton County is doing.

 

A good feeder program does help a HS team, I didnt say otherwise. However what good does that feeder system do if when those kids get to HS they do not have what they need to succeed? I am not saying its Coaching or administration or parents and the like at McCreary, I have no idea what goes on down there being at the other end of the state. Just stating that kids that dont play in a feeder system can still excel in High school.

I saw another thread about Greenup County asking this same question. As things stand now maybe we should drop Football and boys basketball at least till we can get some better interest or something. The admin and powers that be are gonna have to start looking at this hard or do some kind of turnaround to get things going. Our football team looks doomed to win maybe 2/3 games at most and with dismal numbers things don't look to get any better. Basketball will look almost the same with the loss of Tyson to Somerset. I think this is a legitimate question that needs to be asked.

I know he broke your heart heartbreaker but time does heal all wounds and enough time has elapsed for you to be healed by now. You would nt be coaching him anyway.

While you are a Robert Jones sack swinger, you should care more about our kids here and anyone can see what needs to be done to fix this problem. Its been clearly stated by others out of our county here who has heard whats wrong with our program and clearly we as a community are being laughed at for not fixing a problem thats so easy to see, except for your group.

McCreary Central could play some reasonably local schools like Lynn Camp, Pineville, Clinton County, Casey County, Jackson County, maybe a couple of smaller Tennessee schools, and post a decent record. That's not meant as a knock on those schools listed, but rather meant more about their small enrollments which should help McCreary be more competitive. Play two years as an independent, do an evaluation of your roster, your record, your enrollment, and what district you likely will be placed in during the next realignment, then choose to either stick with independent status or move up into district play.

You know cell that might work to start with. I mentioned that we play Clinton and a few others last year and was ripped by the Banker of the South and some others who thought that was blasphemous to even utter such a suggestion. We need a total overall of our sports teams as a whole and I agree with the Knox Central model that if the top people dont want to get on board then they should be replaced and give our kids a chance. A chance is all I have ever asked for, A chance to succeed.
