I dont think Gallatin County will be very deep.

With basketball season just around the corner, would like to stir up some debate on the 8th Region. My order of teams looks like this:

1) Walton Verona

2) Simon Kenton

3) Anderson County

4) Gallatin County

5) South Oldham

6) Owen County

7) Collins

8) Shelby County

9) Henry County

10) Grant County

11) Oldham County

12) Trimble County

13) North Oldham

14) Williamstown

15) Spencer County

16) Carroll County

17) Eminence

I put this together without a ton of thought. Feel free to comment.

Pretty good start. Seeing SK play alot this summer and last year, they have looked very good but I would start them at 4. They will miss H. Stephenson and her ability to shoot, drive and defend. I would put Anderson #2 as I think they are the most talented team and could very well win it. I agree with WV at 1. Though they will have some holes with the loss of their shooters they still have two of the best post and are well coached. Also when you win the region 2 straight years you should start at 1. I would put Gallatin at 3. I saw GC and SK both play South in the region last year. I thought GC took South to the wire and had everyone back. Saw them and SK at the Thomas More camp and they BOTH looked good. Gallatin was very impressive as they ran the table and were the talk of camp. Their guards, athleticism, style of play and unselfishness was fun to watch. I didnt see any big time post or height but I did see a super athletic forward. She was the best athlete on the floor every game.

Though it's way to early here is my list.

1) WV

2) Anderson

3) Gallatin

4) Simon Kenton

5) Owen

6) South

7) Collins

8) Grant

9) Oldham

10) Shelby

Good assessment.
I agree I think guard play will be as solid as anybody in the 8th for Gallatin. I saw Brooke Dossett play several times over the summer with a very talented team and she played a ton of minutes and was a leader on that team. I think her decision making and all around game improved this summer. I saw Hannah Dossett play just a couple times and her shooting is still lights out. If I'm Gallatin just IMO I'm not so concerned with post players as I am in players that can run the floor and are athletic enough to really get after teams with a pressing defense. With the guard talent they have if they can force teams to play up tempo and limit their half court possesions I think they will be a very dangerous team.

Gallatin also has Mikkah Hignite and she improved so much during this past AAU season. She will be a major player in Gallatin's success this year.

Will be interesting to see how the teams are ranked in the Cats Pause Yearbook, which should be out around October 7th or so. Those rankings are generally done by a coaches poll.

The cats pause is not a coaches poll, the last couple of years the eighth was ranked by Mickey Patterson of the Oldham Era for the Cats Pause. Usually the coaches polls are in the major newspapers around November, if I remember correctly.

Your information is 100% correct, Sportslady.

And he routinely showed how little he knew about 8th Region girls basketball. I was told that the person doing the 8th Region for the Cats Pause this year actually polled the coaches on the top teams and players, I could me wrong though.

I hope so, that is the fair way to do it.

We are past the halfway point of the 2012-13 season. I would like to revisit this thread and give my opinion of the 8th Region, 1 through 17.

1) Anderson County-Convincingly, they have been the class of the 8th.

2) Simon Kenton-On a given night, could give Anderson a scare.

3) Walton Verona-Have had to deal with a ton of adversity, but their depth has helped with Sandlin and Clinkenbeard's injuries.

4) Gallatin County-8th Region All A champs.

5) South Oldham-Quietly improving under the guidence of 1st year coach Christy Higdon.

6) Owen County

7) Oldham County

8) Shelby County

9) Collins

10) Trimble County

11) Grant County

12) Williamstown

13) Henry County

14) Spencer County

15) North Oldham

16) Carroll County

17) Eminence

Depends if you are rating right now or at the end of the year. If you are rating right now GC should be ahead of WV at 3.

I agree Coach Higdon has done a good job but I still say Owen at 5. Also thing Shelby is to high. May flip them with Trimble or Collins.
