I was wondering almost midway through the season who is the best big man in NKY. I know going into the season hands down it was Dan Penick. I havent heard much abou him this year. Is he just behind the scenes because he is doing what people expected or have other people jumped ahead of him?

I was wondering almost midway through the season who is the best big man in NKY. I know going into the season hands down it was Dan Penick. I havent heard much abou him this year. Is he just behind the scenes because he is doing what people expected or have other people jumped ahead of him?

Howard from Scott or if we count Pendelton the kid from there would be my top 2. Penick is a DI prospect, but on the HS level those two are heads and shoulder above the rest.

Penick has not been nearly as dominating as I expected. He did very little against Silver Grove last night, and their tallest guy is barely over 6 feet. In fact he was outplayed by one of the Pelle kids. I don't care what kind of matchups you are seeing, when you are 7-8 inches taller than your competition, 13 points is not impressive.

Points aren't everything. You have to look at the smaller things, like him giving up the ball for other team members to score. He's a team player and let's not forget he is one heck of a rebounder. He leads NKY in rebounds and I don't remember the exact stat but I'm pretty sure that he has over 120 rebounds through what, 12-13 games.

I agree. Howard is a solid player and shows strength on the blocks. As long as he don't bring the ball down he is unstoppable. Very impressive against NCC and Dixie.

Howard...I have been to many games this year to see many different players play, and not yet have I seen a big man with that is up to his talent.

and also he dose dish the ball off to the other players remember there are 4 other guys on thecourt who are his teammates, 1 of those players is justin hardin who had 19 pts last night several of those pt were the result of dan passing him the ball. So wether he scores 50 or 13 its the other things he dose on the court that make him a very good player and D-1 prospect.

I know it is a small school but Franklin Daugherty at Walton Verona is avaraging a double double, very good defender on the post also, especially for only being 6'4 tops.

When you are 6-8 you don't give up the ball especially when the people who are guarding you are so much smaller. It seems to me that Dan plays way to much facing the basket instead of posting up. This kid should absolutely DOMINATE on the court. But it seems to me he would rather dribble the ball between his legs and make a no-look pass and shoot the three instead of getting his body on the block, demanding the ball and scoring more. Ludlow is struggling. He needs to help his team win and he won't do that continuing the way he is playing. He has all the skills but doesn't always seem to want to get after it. IMO

Thats what I was thinking- whatever they are doing has not been successful this year. They have a 6'8" guy- utilize him like he should be. Most centers he is going against in A ball are significantly smaller, they don't need him passing the ball. They need to retool whatever they are doing to turn their season around.

It's all Howard and Elliot. While some players can compete with these two on some nights (Kiernan, Young, Scruggs, i.e.) IMO being a great big guy is all about consistency, which most of them lack, even Penick.
