From what I've read, you're supposed to add 77 cents to each month (state & fed taxes) to get the cost at the pump average.

I have seen the reports.

Look at the link I posted.

^ Steady rise during Bush's second term, followed by dramatic drop-off in 2008, followed by steady rise during Obama's first term.

^ Steady rise during Bush's second term, followed by dramatic drop-off in 2008, followed by steady rise during Obama's first term.

The reason for the sharp drop was the economy.

If and when this economy gets going again the price of gas is going to stay high.

Let me give you some numbers

Proven Oil Reserse in billions of barrels as of the end of 2010

Middle East 752.5

Europe & Eurasia 139.7

Asia Pacific 45.2

Africa 132.1

South & Central America 239.4

North America 217.4

Total 1.53 trillion

Unexplored Oil Finds (technically recoverable estimate)

North America 801

Unexplored Oil Finds (estimate with future innovation)

1006 billion

Daily Oil Production in North Dakota has increased from roughly 100,000 barrells in 2005 to nearly 700,000 today. Trust me there is plenty there. The United States will be energy independent in 10 years if Obama is reelected and in 5 years if he isn't.

I don't see anything in what you listed that tells us anything. You disagree with the link I provided?

I think you're right, but why so sure?

Because OPEC dictates the price by minipulating the supply. If the US economy stregthens they just tighten supple driving the price up. This is what happens when you depend on a bunch of lunatics for your most important natural resource.

I think you're right, but why so sure?

Demand will be much higher. Supply for cheap crude is not growing.

The big batches of oil ie Tar Sands are going to require a huge investment because it's dirty oil and hard to get to. That means extra cost just to get it to market. It also is full of bitumen which requires extra cost to get it ready for gasoline.

So those plus growing worldwide demand ie more people wanting oil than in the past lead to higher gas prices when the economy gets running strong.

Becaue OPEC dictates the price by minipulating the supply. If the US economy stregthens they just tighten supple driving the price up. This is what happens when you depend on a bunch of lunatics for your most important natural resource.

The OPEC argument doesn't fly anymore.

This information came straight out of the presentation I saw on Friday. I won't be able to change you mind no matter what I do.

The OPEC argument doesn't fly anymore.

I'm sure it doesn't. I forgot about OPEC looking out for the well being of America.

Again, tell me why the link I provided is invalid.

I'm sure it doesn't. I forgot about OPEC looking out for the well being of America.

OPEC countries are having trouble now figuring out how to meet their OWN demand in the next 10 years. They are not the power they once were. We as a country cannot count on them in the future.
