Ryle 2012/2013

Areed, but a coach should be held responsible for that and it should be escalated through the channels before a kid gets to a transfer situation. If those things are going on inside the sport, then it should go to the highest level possible and get it in front of decision makers.

I obviously don't know all the details, you might have tried that option. But in general, it shouldn't be "easy" for a kid to transfer because of disagreements with a coach or athletic department.

There has been nothing easy about this entire process that we have been through. Started with casual talk of expectations to the coaches all the way to the top. We now move on....

Well then she should transfer!! What are you waiting on!! Good luck to her! Have played against her many times in the AAU bball leagues. She's a good kid and I wish her the best!

She is now transferring but we waited until all appeal avenues were exhausted within the school district since Ryle is where she wanted to go. However, she has now faced the music and knows that is no longer an option and is happy with her decision to make Notre Dame her new home. Thank you for the kind words about her.

I wish her the best. However, I do agree that if there isn't a change in address, the athlete shouldn't be eligible. Just because the player and/or parents feel that she is isn't being treated fairly isn't a reason for KHSAA to approve a transfer. I read the other thread and agree that there are a couple of concerns that need clarification. But these are only one side of the big picture. In regards to the other concerns in the other thread, that's part of playing the game. Coaches use different ways to motivate and some players/parents can't handle it. But just because they can't, it isn't grounds to have a free transfer status.

Guess this is why the KHSAA gets the big picture when the eligibility request is made and then makes their decision. We can all say what we think something should and shouldn't happen but the ultimate decision lies in Frankfort. That is the reason why she is prepared to have to sit out a year if they deny the request. Will she be happy about it? No! Why? Because she had to leave a school due to inappropriate statements/actions by adults that she had no control over!

Sitting out a year will not be advantagous to her. As a parent, if I felt this strongly about her transferring, I would get another address if the KHSAA did not approve the transfer.

If she has to miss a year of high school softball it will NOT affect her chances at any college offers. College coaches DO NOT come to 9th region high school softball games to look at players, it's all done on the summer circuit.

It does seem to me that Ryle continues to lose players, if I am not mistaken this will be 4 out of 5 years a player or players chose to leave this program??????

There have been at least 5 players to leave Ryle softball and/or basketball since Moss. Yet both programs continue to be successful under the one coach. So, is "school hopping" a growing trend in general? Kids/parents don't like the situation so move to a different school? I can see it in travel ball or AAU, but doing so for school athletics seems to place the value of sports above everything else. (That topic and the Smith issue could use it's own thread....)

As for "Ryle 2012/2013" - seems to be a re-building year for the Lady Raiders. Only 2 returning starters: Johnson, who can be very impressive, and Oliverio. Both are strong, multi-year starters, but after that, the experience level really drops. There are some nice guards that will get a chance to step it up, but with Crittendon, Dixon, and now Smith gone, Ryle will have no returning inside game, and it was never a strength of the Raiders. They may have to look at incoming freshmen to fill some post positions, as the girls from Gray MS will bring some height.

Also, the Ryle girls JV and Frosh coaching jobs were recently posted.

Coach is fortunate to have good talent!!

When the situation includes rape/weakness being part of the motivational coaches speech, our values rise to the top, far above that of sports!!!

So was this a one time very poor attempt at motivation?

I think your answer is in the post by jumpball, above.

One time is too many for me.

I read your comments on your other thread and placed this reply there as well. I heard about this thread ( the other one you started on bullying and coaching)and when I read it I was like OMG!! I called a friend of mine whose niece plays for Ryle and asked her if she had seen it. She told me that her niece read the post and said “Coach never said that. That is a bunch of made up stuff and lies. All of us including our parents sign written rules and one is what colors we wear to practice. It has to be team colors and she was asked to change her shirt one time at practice. That is all that was said or done to her all year. She (player) never got in trouble or was punished at practices or made fun of by coaches to the team. Her mother came to practice one day and yelled at the coaches during practice but they ignored her”.

My friend then told me some of the stuff that happened this year. There were several adult witnesses to the alleged physical event between player and coach and they said the coach did nothing inappropriate. An investigation was conducted and lots of players and parents were interviewed and your claim could not be substantiated. My friend then told me that your daughter has played for four softball seasons and one basketball season for these coaches. Her niece has played for three years and these players’ parents were always supportive of the coaches until a week into this year’s softball season. Parents allowed daughter to remain on the team all year and even played in the state tournament even when her mom went on bluegrass and said daughter was miserable, coaches being mean, etc. Just a real mess and the mother will not let it go.

As a mother of three I have to ask the question” if the coaches are so bad why let your daughter remain on the team”? You filed all these complaints and grievances but did not remove daughter from the environment that is so toxic???? I also find it very hard to believe that a coach would make such a statement when he has a teenage daughter on the team. According to my friend’s niece the coach NEVER made a statement about weakness and rape, those words were never put together. This is a horrible accusation to post and to accuse someone of making this statement, especially when you did not personally hear the discussion. This is indefensible. It is one thing to criticize decisions of a coach but to defame someone’s reputation is deplorable. To think, if I had not known someone to call and check out your claims I would have thought this coach was horrible.

After hearing from my friend that what you posted are unsubstantiated claims (lies), according to her niece and others I called an attorney friend of mine and read him the post you wrote. He said he would need to know more details but these posted comments may rise to the level of libel, especially if these accusations have been reviewed by school administration, an investigation was conducted and the claims not substantiated. I may not be an attorney but it seems to me that these coaches have a strong case if they choose to pursue legal action.

So you are acknowledging that the word rape was used? Or not used? Contradicted yourself....it was never said or those words not put together??

Just because coaches remain, does not mean administration did not substantiate claims made.....want to read the decision, give me a call. Your link through your friends nieces daughter can get you my number. Or feel free to PM me and I'll give it to you myself.

As for the physical altercation, I personally spoke to 2 adults that saw it. Physically touching a kid while you are angered is unacceptable. What those adults reported when asked, I don't know & don't see it being my place to ask, it is their opinion. My opinion is IN ANGER, you don't place your hands on anyone, let alone kids. Be the adult, walk away and address it when the situation has calmed down.

momas3,

I am sure the lawyer you spoke to would love to take some of your (or other parents) money, don't believe everything you hear from people with a vested interest.

Everyone else, this thread is way way off course... Feel free to start another one but keep it on topic.
