HC doubled to start the inning. Then with 1 out the shortstop booted a grounder. Runners on 1st and 3rd.

 

Runner on 1st steals 2nd with no throw due to man on 3rd.

 

Apparently the pitcher didn't know the runner stole the base. He was in the stretch and threw a pickoff throw to first base. Unfortunately, no one was there and the runner on 3rd scored. Doesn't matter if it was caught. It would have been a balk anyway for throwing to an unoccupied base.

 

Pure second-guessing here from a guy who has zero varsity wins which is about 300 less than Coach Schulkens: Not sure why he didn't walk the batter intentionally to load them up and set up forces.

Wow! What a way to lose a game. Over throwing the first baseman with a guy on third and 1 out? Sounds like a great game, just saw bits and pieces. Sad for Cain to go the distance and have that play end a great performance!

I saw where it went to first and third with 1 out then my phone cut out. How did Henderson score?

 

Great game by Cain and NCC. Congratulations on a great run and way to represent the 9th. Jeff and the rest of his staff are top notch. There is nothing for the players to hang their heads about as they had a great season and played solid baseball through the tournament. Remember the run and the memories you made.

Clyde, Im right with you on why didn't NCC not walk Cessna to load the bases.

 

As much as I love to see Henderson win I hate to see it happen the way it did. Feel bad for Cain, he pitched a great game.

I guess technically the run scored on a balk as it was a balk as soon as he threw it to first.

Boy hate to hear they lost the game that way. Congrats on a very nice season though.

Cain had only thrown 83 pitches going into the 9th inning, so he wasn't out of gas.

 

My guess is Cain feels rather bad but he shouldn't at all. NCC left 7 men on base and had 4 errors of which 3 were throwing errors and the error in the 9th by 6 cost them the game.

 

If NCC could have gotten down a bunt in the top of the seventh the game would have been over in regulation but.....

Tough way for the Breds to go out. Congrats to the players, Coach Schulkens, and the rest of the staff on yet another EXCELLENT season. Breds pitching next year will be strong and hopefully will make a longer run in tourney..

Pitcher goes into his stretch and then throws the ball away as the 1st man is not excepting the ball to be thrown to him. Even with out the throwing error, with 1st base unoccupied it is a balk!

What a shame. Obviously Cain pitched a whale of a game. But whoever pitched for Henderson must have been lights out as well. Not all that often in high school ball are you going to play a 9-inning game and shut out your opponent. Just too many walks and errors at the high school level for this to happen often. Great season for NCC. No all-NKY final this year, so go 'Stangs.
