Best Places To Play In the 14th

I was not aware Lee had a new gym. Also, has Wolfe redone their gym?

Lee redone their gym is what he is referring to i think.

I thought Estill had a decent gym Ronnie? What has happened to it?

Estill has a pretty nice gym, it seats about 2500, but it used to seat around 3000 before they removed some of the seats for coaches offices. One problem I have with their gym is there isn't much room in the inzones. The wall behind the goals looks like they're only 10 feet from the out of bounds line. Most gym's with that type of seating capacity has inzones that are at least 20 feet deep.

Hazard's Memorial Gym

No way.

It's was a great gym back in the '50's and '60's, but not today.

Horrible parking conditions are one problem, and it only seats about 2400 at max....anyone that says otherwise had better go back in there and count (because I have). They sure won't come up with the 3500 that Hazard's officials like to quote to people. They generally have good tournament gates, but it's because people have to wait outside for the first game to finish (and their fans to leave) to get into the gym. Last year hundreds of fans were stuck outside standing in heavy snow until the first semifinal game was over because the gates were closed due to a capacity crowd.

It was a wonderful facility back in Johnny Cox's day, but no amount of paint and new carpet will help it today. It should be taken out of the regional tournament rotation. No gym that host the regional tournament should have to make people park three miles away and be shuttled to the venue. Not this day and time with so many other modern facilities around.....with ample seating and PARKING!

It is at MC Napier's old gym, I think it's called the Neace Center. Tournament officials have had trouble in the past with parking at Whitaker, so they've recently decided to move it to the other facility.

I wonder what kind of shape the Neace Center is in, I haven't been there in years. I suppose they play a lot of their middle school games there.

I think you are correct there Professor. I believe all grade school tourneys, both boys and girls, pre-season and post-season tourneys are played there. If I'm not mistaken PCC girls and boys basketball teams use the gym for practice from time to time, where practice schedules may conflict. Other sports may also use it occasionally such as cheerleading and volleyball. They try to make good use of it.

Best Gym in 14th hands down: Morton Combs Athletic Complex, Hindman, Ky. But then again, I am a little bias :thumb:

Will have to check out Letcher's new facility. Do not know about its seating compacity and layout.

And they say Leslie has no parking?

No way.

AGREED, I don't know how they are in the rotation well...it is Hazard.

Perry Central is my favorite. Hazard is last because of parking, or the lack of parking.

Yes PCC has a great facility but no air conditioning. I know in summer ball it kills me when the gym is so hot.

Where is the regional tourney at this year??

Knott Central. It will be at Letcher Central next year. The two flip-flopped this year because Letcher Central's gym wasn't completed in time.
