I understand Beechwood and Dixie just signed a two year contract to play each other.

 

As a Beechwood fan I do have some interest in the game but I am concerned with the timing. Dixie should be very good the next two years and Beechwood has several unknowns at this point.

So let me get this straight, you think adding Dixie to the schedule is "ducking" teams. :confused:

Where did you get that? theguru wondered about the timing and the fact that Dixie was going to be on an up-cycle while Beechwood may not be. When you use this as a factor in scheduling teams, I call that ducking an opponent. Not Dixie, but the philosophy as a whole.

This maybe one of the strangest comments that I have read in years (we have already had the scheduling conversation in this thread--you may want to check it out).

 

Attention: Beechwood has not, will not, and will NEVER duck anyone. Regardless of who the coach is. Beechwood was good before Yeagle. He took them to a higher level and I am sure that they will hire someone who only believes in keeping with the current tradition.

 

Besides--there are a lot more teams that duck Beechwood as opposed to the other way around.

I can understand where SM32 got that from. I too look at it as the way SM32 did. I think your wording to theguru's statement is misleading. Many that read your statement feel that by scheduling Dixie, they are ducking stronger opponents. Now that you clarify (somewhat) above, you are questioning guru's philosophy of being the wrong time to schedule a strong opponent, thus meaning that his statement leads to believe that they should've scheduled a weaker opponent since they don't know what their future holds.

Scheduling a team that is expected to strong while questioning whether you will be strong and questioning the timing. It has nothing to do with Dixie. I just asked if this is going to be the primary issue Beechwood is concerned about when making their schedule. If they are going to be concerned with which programs are on the upswing and which ones are not, that is the first step in opponent ducking. I'm also not saying Beechwood has ever done this. But I do wonder what the new philosophy of scheduling will be with the new coach.

OK I'm trying to hear you. But it did not seem that that was what you were trying to say. I would say that if you listen to QS and observe what the AD has done with the present schedule you will find a patern of Beechwood playing the tuff teams so they can be prepared to run for state every year, period. This coming year and the ones that follow will be no exception. Their program has been in the elite of KY for the last 20+ years and I doubt it will stop anytime soon. Why in the world would you think that they would or should run scared from anybody I guess is the initial question I have in my mind? Coaches come and go, excellent programs like Beechwoods will always survive. I'm sure the same uncertainty happenned at Highlands before Dale got there and they've done OK.

Gotcha. I just got a little turned around by what you were saying.

I see where Fletch is and where S32 is in regard to this argument (and I took Fletch literally right away--and didn't even think about the Dixie angle). But here is a little inside look at playing Dixie (or at least how some people at Beechwood think of it in regard to what it could mean to the program in a NEGATIVE way):

 

1. Dixie has been a strong program for the last 8-10 years (and even further back)--this is going to be a tough game--and could result in injuries (and a loss).

2. Dixie has a chip on their should about Villa Hills kids who take the test to go to Beechwood--by winning this game--they feel that this trend would stop.

3. Losing to Dixie will mean a lot more (in the long run) than losing to a team like Hopkinsville. (But that could also be a plus).

 

Beechwood did NOT look at this game as a cakewalk in anyway. Matter of fact--they have every bit as much to loose (if not more) than Dixie (and everything that is written above is the truth).

 

Again, Fletch--I see what you are saying--but Beechwood wouldn't go in that direction--regardless of who ends up as coach (and our scheduling conversation should lead you in the right direction).

I can see that argument too. But tell me, now that Dixie is on the map, has CCH suffered? Our district has fed them talent for years and still do. They are still a great team. Has Beechwood suffered? Once again, they are still a great team. Both have won titles since Dixie's emergence as a NKY power. This game will do little more than give bragging rights to a meaningless non district game. If either one of the three wins a state title or goes deep in the playoffs for their respective class it does not deminsh that achievement one bit. It merely solidifies what we already know. These are three great teams, and people will choose the one they send their kids too for various reasons. I don't think we will loose or gain any kids because of a game in week three or four. Maybe because of week 15, but deffinetly not week three or four.

Just my opinion.

I'm not saying that Beechwood is going to be a push over by any mean. i just dont hear any big names for them next year. All of Dixie game will be hard this year and i hope the Dixie boys can end there lossing slide to Boone.

Historically Beechwood has given CCH a very hard time, so I would expect that playing Dixie will be little different. It will be a great game and I'm glad to have it on the schedule no matter what the outcome.
