Got ya......:thumb:BTW, not many football games starting at 11am either. Just a different game in general but at the end of the day it doesnt matter whether its baseball, football or (swimming?) the KHSAA heat rules apply to protect the kids.

And the sad thing is this is a State by State rule which really doesnt make any sense at all. You can either die by the heat or you can't, which is it folks.

Indeed you are correct but it was at CovCath. Ohio doesn't have a heat rule!

16th region softball was delayed last year more than once because of heat.

6th and 7th Region games last year were delayed because of heat index readings of 100+ on the turf at Jim Patterson and St. X. This year, due to the projected heat, they have already decided to move games so that they are all started before noon. 2 games each at Southern, PRP, St. X, and Eastern starting at 9 and 11:15. Semis will return to UL with evening start times Tuesday/Wednesday.

People don't realize that anytime any player is required to wear extra gear or padding and by rule can not play without it then games have to be stopped when the heat index reaches 100. We all think about football but as the earlier post brought out it also includes baseball and softball because of the batters helmets and catcher's gear. It also includes soccer because of the shin guards. For schools that abide by KHSAA guidelines for non-sanctioned sports (and IMVHO you're asking for a whole lot of problems if you don't) then it would cover field hockey and lacrosse. Another thing that a lot of people don't take into account, basketball, volleyball and other indoor sports must be shut down in non-ACed gyms if the HI gets above 104.

What many do not realize is that the "official" temp given by the news and weather station is taken in the shade. When calculating the Heat Index for the event/practice it is to be done on-site, i.e. on the field. If part of the field is in the shade, the reading must be done in the "sunny" part.

I'm from a different state, but Umps used to make us catchers knock on the cup to verify we were wearing it. I also made sure I wore one when I moved to 3rd in college, and I'd say I took more off the cup at third in 2 years than I did in all my years catching.

Weather looking awesome for games Wednesday (80 degrees, mostly sunny) and Thursday (75 degrees, sunny with some clouds). No rain in forecast either day, nor any brutal temperatures.
