Another "FIASCO" involving Bellevue Softball in District opener

Really doesn't matter if they asked for the game to be moved to another day. The start time was moved to 4:30 to accommodate them so they had time to get to the awards presentation at 7:00. The coach should be fired and if the AD supported this, he should be fired too. It's apparent, that this coach has put nothing into this season and this illustrates it. I don't even have a dog in this fight and it ****es me off. I feel bad for the girls and sorry they had to put up with this idiot all year.

Let's say it was really important for the girls to be there for it all and they asked that the game be moved to another day like the boys did. Let's also say Newport said no.

You've got no problem with that assuming NC and HHS were able to switch?

Being able to switch or not doesn't matter to me. Arrangements were made to get them back in time for the awards presentation. So what if they had to miss the meal! I know my kids wouldn't have missed a game for meal.

Them missing the meal could have a Title 9 repercussion, if the Boys team could make the meal.

That's not what I asked.

I asked if Newport is culpable IF Bellevue asked to switch the game . It doesn't really matter what your daughter would do or what my daughter would do. If Newport said no aren't they at least as much to blame?

I would say yes and no.

If Newport could switch the game and choose not to then yes.

However, are these District dates not set in stone early on in the school year? That the dates for district games are X, Y, Z? If they are, then Newport IMO is not culpable because these dates were set well in advance, and its Bellevue's issue if they schedule other events on those days.

Why does it matter if it's set in stone?

One game is set for Tuesday. One game is set for Wednesday. If Wednesday's teams can play Tuesday what's the harm in switching like they did for the boys?

Again as I said I did not know if the were set in stone or not. I don't see any harm in switching it if it can be. However a school should know this information that Districts are these dates and not plan other events that conflict with it.

I believe just the week of the district tournament is set in stone. Please correct me if I am wrong but I also believe they decide what days the games are played at the draw, so IMO that should have been brought up and they should have worked all that out at that time.

You are correct, just like BGH said (I think he said it in this thread) for the boy's regional tournament they switched dates/times around due to the statewide ACT testing at the regional meeting.

are these District dates not set in stone early on in the school year?

The weeks are set. All district play has to occur during a set week, but it's up to each district to schedule the games inside of that week. You could play every day, every other day, early in the week, later in the week..there was ample room to be flexible.

According to Lawnboy, Bellevue didn't ask for the game to be switched. So based on this, it looks like all the blame is on Bellevue. And even if Bellevue asked to switch and Newport said "no", I don't see them at fault. They planned to be there and so should have Bellevue. Like the old saying goes, "lack of planning on your part doesn't constitute an emergency on mine".

Correct, and when the days were set ALL were in agreement with the dates. 6 seniors from Newcath missed their Baccalaureate Mass last night to play, don't see why Bellevue couldn't miss a meal to play a game????

Clyde, the moron comment may be added back now! Don't feel sophomoric, we all do it. Sometimes warranted.
