Things started slowly for Bishop Brossart allowing Newport Central Catholic five unearned runs in the first two innings at Pendery Park. It seemed we might have a replay of Mondays' game, but this time the bats came alive for the Lady 'Stangs as they continued their mastery over the Lady Breds' 17-5 in five innings. The 17 run 14 hit attack would come off of four NCC pitchers. Brossart is now 8-2 on the season while NCC falls to 6-6. Brossart has beaten NCC in every meeting now since the 2007 season. The relative youth of the Brossart team should bode well in continuing that streak in future years.

Newport CC had been playing well, having lost a heartbreaker to Cincinnati McNicholas 3-2 and then yesterday blasting Beechwood 17-0.

It was the first meeting between the two rivals since last year's easy 7-0 win by Brossart at Bartlett Field.

Two costly Brossart errors in the first inning and some timely hitting by NCC dug the 'Stangs a 3-0 deficit, but unlike yesterday the home team bounced back with three of their own in the bottom half of the inning. Following two quick outs, pitcher Karlie Shackelford doubled and was replaced by courtesy runner Caroline Woeste. Firstbaseman Maria Greis hit a sharp single to left and then secondbaseman Molly Williams drilled a double in the gap to plate Woeste. Sophomore Gretchen Trumbo, with runners on second and third, delivered a clutch single to drive home Greis and Williams and it was tied 3-3.

In the second inning once again the Lady 'Stangs played good neighbor by giving up two more unearned runs on two errors putting NCC on top 5-3. Brossart was up to the task though scoring four of their own with one out to take the lead again 7-5. Tricia Kramer reached on an error, Erica Riedeman singled and Shackelford walked. Williams scored one with a sacrifice fly and then Trumbo knocked in another two with a bloop to center. Taylor Hardy took a bases loaded walk to force in run 7.

Shackelford from that point pitched three scoreless innings earning her 8th win of the season. She allowed just 3 NCC baserunners the final 3 stanzas.

Brossart added two more in the third inning to make it 9-5 on rbis by Greis and Williams. The fourth inning though would be the backbreaker for the Lady 'Breds.

The Lady 'Stangs would double the score scoring nine runs and sending 12 batters to the plate in the fourth allowing Brossart to run rule NCC in five innings. In that inning 8 of the 9 Bishop Brossart batters scored a run. Six different batters had rbis including two each by Shackelford and Williams.

Five different Brossart batters finished with at least two hits. Williams and Trumbo each had 4 rbis while Greis had three and Shackelford 2.

The Bishop Brossart freshmen today defeated Highlands freshmen 13-0.

It was a good day at Pendery Park. The Lady 'Stangs now travel to Silver Grove Wednesday for a 37th District game with Silver Grove before preparing for a huge All “A” Game Saturday with Nicholas County.

Congrats to the Lady 'Stangs, they handed the Breds a good ole dose of "butt-whip" tonight.

 

Somewhat congrats to BGH, I guess since you knew I'd be there today there would be zero chance for "creative" score keeping, but you tried. I had you down for 13 hits and the only one you were off on was the sharp single to left in the 1st by Maria Greis, was actually hit to our SS who booted the ball, if she makes the play you score zero in the first.

 

The unearned run stat is WAY OFF. The 3 runs in the 1st were all EARNED. Let's recap for those not in attendence.....Leadoff batter out 2-3, next batter doubles, next batter k's, next batter rbi single and moves up on throwing error by the catcher(1st ER), next batter rbi single(2nd ER), next batter single, next batter rbi single(3rd ER), next batter lineout to pitcher, end of inning. She dug out numerous pitches and throws, slides to cover well and made a play up against the fence on a pop foul worthy of replay status. The wind was brutal and yes Kristen is one heckuva catcher, she is definitley earning her keep behind the dish and then some. And yes, that was a heck of a play she made on that ball. :notworthy:

Well the problem is HE is the one who doesn't see things well, especially when hes out cutting grass and doesn't even attend the game. That bucket he sets on must affect his vision hehe. The first batter was out on a bunt attempt for NCC then the second batter hit a ball to left that went off our leftfielder's glove for an error. He also forgot the error our shortstop made who could have had a force on a flip to second. THEN NCC did have three nice hits but with the first out had the two outs been recorded those three batters would have never batted...THUS.....unearned runs. Duh:deadhorse:

I will go first my vote goes to Lawnboy. I have seen first hand BGH's magic penicl.

I'm not sure how BGH can even keep stats. Every time I looked over, he was 30 feet away from the dugout talking with parents and not paying attention to the bench or the game. No wonder the BB girls who weren't in the game were running back and forth to the concession stand; not paying attention to the game. They learn from the master, I guess.

Good win by the Lady Mustangs though. Maria Greis has a nice stroke and great game by Shackleford! She looked like she was having a great day; laughing and giggling out there! Love that winning attitude!

Don't need to vote. IMO BGH is totally wrong and LB is right. They were definitely hits if I was keeping the official book with three earned runs charged. If those were Brossart kids that hit the ball BGH would definitely be giving them hits.

She ran a country mile and the ball grazes her glove, In my book and YOURS that's a hit, and the only flip your SS could have made was to your third baseman since the ball was hit to the third base side of short. The only way anyone would have been forced on that play, with all due respect, is if you would have been running.

I dont think it really matters in my book. It was a big game for both teams and Brossart stepped up and took care of business !!!!!

I totally agree with Dawg, you can go back and forth with errors and hits, but when the final score is 17 to 5 it really doesn't matter in my book.
