April 5, 201214 yr Several interesting comments in this article. Thoughts? Dallas Mavericks' Mark Cuban -- Make players stay 3 years in NCAA - ESPN Dallas
April 5, 201214 yr Love his thoughts and I agree with him. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the idea of letting kids who aren't "college material" develop in the D league or overseas. I agree with the comments he makes about kids not being ready in areas not directly related to basketball. I think he makes lots of sense.

I agree with the comments he makes about kids not being ready in areas not directly related to basketball. I think he makes lots of sense. Agreed. Not sure if I'd go all the way to 3 years, but I'd at least make it a 2-year rule. I think that's best for the NBA.
April 5, 201214 yr Why didn't he push for this at the lockout if he wants it so bad? This is idle talk until he proves otherwise.
April 5, 201214 yr I wanted the rule changed to 2 years more than anything else in the lockout but it didn't come to fruition. I certainly hope it does get changed, although I'm not sure how that will affect UK directly as it may change the landscape.
April 5, 201214 yr I understand his thoughts on the 3 year rule with letting kids develop in D League or over seas but I think it would result mostly in guys going over seas probably more than any thing. If that's the case then I think it hurts the college game more than any thing in my opinion.
April 5, 201214 yr I think if they keep kids for 2 or 3 years then they need the option of going pro right after high school. Either scenario can be bad for college basketball. If they have to stay for more than one year then give them the option to go pro. Weed out the ones we know aren't serious about college. No pun intended.
April 6, 201214 yr There is no good reason for a 3 year deal. That only would benefit the college game. I think it's good the way it is honestly. As much as I would love to see Anthony Davis at UK for 3 years there is no point for him to play college ball that long. He should be in the NBA.

They get a free minor league system.
April 6, 201214 yr It benefits the owners. They get a free minor league system. They already have that. What are we going to find out in 2 more years about MKG or Davis?
April 6, 201214 yr They already have that. What are we going to find out in 2 more years about MKG or Davis? It's not about guys like MKG and Davis. It is for guys like Tony Wroten and Trey Burke who go pro after one year and are definitely not ready for the NBA. They would benefit from the 3 year rule, and there are a lot more guys like them than there are MKG and Davis.

Guys that get bad advice will continue to get bad advice whether they stay one year or three years.
April 6, 201214 yr So the NBA will miss out on 2 years of play for the top guys so they can make a more informed decision on fringe players, please.
April 6, 201214 yr So the NBA will miss out on 2 years of play for the top guys so they can make a more informed decision on fringe players, please. I'm not talking from the NBA's perspective. I mean it would help the fringe players to become better prepared for the league if they played 3 years of college.
