What about freedom of speech?

Did you read the article?

I'm as big an advocate for free speech as there is on this board, but this guy knows the rules and chooses to flout them, thereby ignoring the chain of command.

Yes, but this day and time does Policy mean anything. The military also had a policy of not allowing gays.

OK, what about the fact that the POTUS is the commander-in-chief of the US Armed Forces and the rights of freedom of speech not applying to the military when it comes to criticizing your boss don't you understand?

The soldier is a nine year vet, he has seen more, done more military stuff than Obama ever has. He has a right to express his feelings.

He has every right to, just not about his boss.

You're right he has every right to do so....Just like the Armed Forces has every right to send him packing. Every action has consequences.

That could be true of the Captain who just graduated from college a two years ago as well. Should he disregard what the Captain says?

You simply do not have the ability to a)understand the concept of Freedom of Speech and b)see past your dislike of the current POTUS. You are unable to have an intelligent discussion when either of those two concepts are present.

He knew the rules, he ignored them. If he wanted to criticize his commander-in-chief without repercussion, he should have waited until he was no longer in the military. It's just that simple.

I know several people in the military that post very negative things about the POTUS on their Facebook page. I always thought that was a no no.

As a former Marine this disrespect for the Commander-in-Chief is unfathomable. If you are a true Marine you follow the orders of your superior officers. It doesn't matter if you agree with him politically or not. I took my oath seriously. I will always believe in Semper Fidelis but not with people like this.

My father was in the USMC in the early 60s. He would agree wholeheartedly.
